In regards to diacetyl, when I first read the disclosure on MOVs Facebook page, I emailed Spinfuel Magazine expressing my concern (on Sunday night). Within an hour I had a reply from Dave Foster, the Adminstrator of Spinfuel's forum. They were not aware of the situation but would look into it. Today they published this article. The Cathy quoted is yours truly. Hopefully this can dispel some rumors and fears. We all choose to vape what we enjoy, just be aware of the ingredients and the integrity of the vendor. The vendors mentioned on this thread are all responsible, honest people who care about their customers, MOV included.

Diacetyl- Risks, Prevalence, and Precautions

For myself, I look forward to trying the new, re-mixed Chai Tea Latte, along with their other, non-affected flavors.

Back to Natural Tobaccos.....

What the heck happened to DV? They just up and went "poof" with no notice,no explanation . . .:(

I am not sure who, but someone close to, or at DV is experiencing health hardships. Or at least that's what I've learned though back channels, because as you've said, nothing's been posted. For them to drop everything with no word, I imagine it was either truly tragic or something other than.

The email said they stopped making juice when they didn't get an order from Eleanor in a while. What's the point? is what they said. Yep. :p

Oh hardy har har! :p

Seriously, Ted and his wife and child seemed like such a beautiful family . . . I hope nothing too horrible has happened? PM me if you have any knowledge, please . . . :(

I was surprised they used caramel in the Chai Tea. I'm guessing it played a small, but possibly important, role. I loved their Chai Tea and hope the reformulation is still great (I'm sure it will be). I'm kind of hoping with FVF RY4 that using a different caramel will change it somewhat, as I hadn't planned on ever reordering it. If people report it tasting different, I'd like to try that.

Steve mentioned in one of our email exchanges that they are expecting to have FVF RY4 reformulated and back on the shelves in 3 weeks.

Just passing along a little snippet of information.

Oh, and my two Southern Gentleman replacements for the FVF RY4 shipped today. ;)

I had originally heard diacetyl is in cinnamon flavored juices? There's a warning on mbv web site about vaping cinnamon or does it have a separate dangerous chemical? Does anyone know?

You got the two issues confubulated (haha), or the person you heard that from did. The two are two separate "issues." There's a thread about that and it was resolved (as far as MBV is concerned).

So what did I miss in NET news?

Seperate issue. With cinnamon the issue is a possibility that certain chemicals used in some cinnamon flavoring may be carcinogenic.

That is indeed the problem that we can't know for sure as vapers that the ones that claim to be diacetyl free really are. I'm not sure what tests need to be done, but I'm guessing it's expensive and most vendors wouldn't have a way of doing the tests themselves. It helps to stay away from buttery and custard flavors, but now caramel is known to be a possible issue and who knows what else. Each vaper has to decide how careful they are going to be. My choice is I vape the occasional juice that has diacetyl substitutes even though they may have the same issues as diacetyl (occasional being my key word) and as long as a vendor isn't knowingly using diacetyl that's good enough for me, even if that may mean an ingredient could slip by. Some people are more diligent than me and avoid certain flavorings. The most cautious would just be to vape unflavored nic.

With vaping any flavored juice, we are taking unknown risks. Those risks are probably very small, are certainly worlds away from the risks of smoking, but it's still the one area in vaping that makes us sort of like guinnea pigs. Who knows, there may be an ingredient that's being commonly used that causes severe problems 30+ years down the line, we won't know for sure until vaping has been around that long. For me, the small but still possible risks of inhaling flavors isn't much of a concern, and the risk/reward ratio is overwhelmingly toward reward.

With something proven as harmful as diacetyl though, if a vendor says they knowingly use it, there's too much other choices for me to want to take that specific risk. If my only choice was to vape juices that contained known levels of it....... man that would tough because I don't know if I could quit vaping without going back to smoking.

Another problem is that while the flavoring companies are scrambling to come up with "substitute" ingredients to replace diacetyl in their creamy/buttery flavorings, we don't know whether or not the substitutes are safe. Neither do they, really. From what I gather, diacetyl was discovered to be unsafe for inhalation only because workers in a popcorn factory suffered a statistically significant incidence of lung damage. I don't know what it will take for the substitute ingredients to be confirmed as inhalation safe or not.

For me, giving up creamy/buttery/caramelly flavorings would represent a huge change in what I vape. It might even mean termination of the RY4 thread.

The possibility of giving up smoking only to suffer serious lung damage or even death from vaping would be an irony of tragic proportions. And this is being ramped up at the very point where custard eliquids are all the rage.

In many ways, of course, we are inevitably the guinea pigs and lab rats, but still... I'm upset about this whole problem more than I can put into words.

One additional short comment:

As concerned as I am about the health issues in vaping, I'm not upset with MOV. Steve and Brandy (Brandi? well, Le Dean for short) are people with whom I've had nothing but friendly, pleasant, and productive interactions. I like them as people and as vendors. As far as I can tell, given what's publicly known so far, they have acted with impeccable integrity and commendable concern for the well-being of their customers. I'm not dissing anyone who might be angry with MOV, because that is an easily understandable reaction. I'm just reporting that I don't hold MOV responsible and applaud Steve and Le Dean's efforts to insure product safety.

HHV's NETs burn cleaner than [most] other vendors NETs. Depends on the NET, too. Generally, they are cleaner burning, but it also depends on your PG/VG ratio. 100% VG HHV will most likely gunk faster than 60/40.

I got 50pg/50vg ratio. I'm hoping that burns cleanly, and doesn't gunk up really bad after 1ml.

I'm a fan of both vendors. I can go without HHV for months and forget about the company's juices. I vape something from Ahlusion every day. Most of the HHV juices I enjoy are its dessert tobaccos. Ahlusion excels in several areas -- tobaccos, teas, desserts, beverages, etc. The price difference is slight, in my opinion.

30ml Bottles
HHV: $13
Ahlusion: $16

50ml - 60ml Bottles
HHV 50ml: $21
Ahlusion 60ml: $28

Keep in mind that you get a 15% off coupon after every Ahlusion order, so the price difference becomes even lower. You also get a a free 10ml sample with orders over $20.

Does Ahlusion disclaim this 15% coupon after every order on their website? I must have looked in the wrong place because I couldn't find it.

Awesome!! The FVF RY4 was great. Just wish it had a stronger tobacco flavor instead of the dominant Vanilla. Just got notification about my shipping as well. They are sending me more Southern Gentleman, Outlaw, and Belgian Briar. I'm hearing good things about Outlaw.

You're worried about HHV with 1ml?? That's easy. I usually can go 15ml without issue, unless I have a faulty coil. After about 10ml, their is a color and flavor change, and this is in a T2. You shouldn't have any problems.

In regards to MOV: they handled the situation professionally, and get  up for ethical responsibility.

The coupon is emailed to you after each order placed. I believe it's around three weeks after shipping.
