So using 28 awg following rips guide I'm getting 1.6 1.8ohms. 8 wraps. But I am having leaking problems. Leaking into the base and lots of gurgling. Am into using enough cotton? Tried placing in both the slots the stock ones were. Not having watched problem with my protank recoil leaking

Make sure your grommet and pin are tight. Hopefully you did not drill out or widen the stock holes in the coil...this is epic fail for flooding..I would reduce the amount of wick in your coil, significantly. The more wick you have the more juice you will absorb the bigger chance you create to flood. I put in the tiniest amount and it works well. Wick positioning is key. It has to be just below the top notch in the coil. Experiment with that. I have better luck installing the coil thru the bottom of the head and removing the inner sheath...It is not easy to wick though but doable...again, very little cotton...G/L

I have been building them with 5 or 6 wraps 28 ga. First I remove center pin and grommet then push out factory coils and heat shield. After hitting wire with heat from a lighter I warp it around a very small screwdriver. Then I tighten and press and shape new
Coil. Next I make a cotton wick from a qtip and thread through with a needle threader. Trim wick about 3/16 inch and place back and try to get cotton to seat at
Lowest point in the cup. Hard to explain in words but is very easy and works well for me. Maybe tomorrow I can take pics and show.

I have been leaving the factory circular piece In and getting the cotton at the lowest point down where it is exposed. It even some times drys out a bit much, but I blow back into it a little when that happens and keeps the juice fresh. A way of pressurizing it a little. I would like to try SS mesh there if I can find some local like.

Right on. Well I think I'm headed in the right direction. I removed the wicking material and did a quick 8 wraps. I put the coil so it would sit kinda right in the middle of the slot in the metal. Tgink I might still have my wicks too long. I'm actually getting vape off it now and decent vape but still leaking a little. Not getting.the vape taste or nice lil crackling sounds I would like or close to the stock coils. Just made a quick coil 8 wraps came out as 1.1ohms

I am by no means experienced with micro coils or even ecigs in general. But I am an electrician by trade and it makes most sense to me to have an air gap even if ever so slight. The way I make the coils now is more a matter of necessity and trial and error. I am just lucky enough to have the measuring equipment for my profession. In theory I can do the math, but it doesn't matter unless what I have works. As I really don't know what I like until I try it out. I am how ever always experimenting to find just the right combo.
