I've got one of those Madvapes VV kits. After reading posts about these things getting hot I thought I would ask this question before I went too far on my mod and current plans. I'm doing a led flashlight mod. I'm taking the battery lid from one and epoxying it to the top of another light. Right above the batteries is the big block from the switch that pretty much takes up all the space there. The additional battery lid will hopefully house the VV. It'll be pretty well sealed in there except for a hole to make adjustments. Should I drill vent holes all around the piece or would that be too hot as well or does it really matter?

Thanks,
Greg

Air vents probably wouldn't be all that effective. The best thing to do is to solder a copper strip to the regulator's heat sink tab. If you can manage to extend it a length into the enclosure, that should be fairly effective. You'll still get heat from the regulator, but the copper strip will spread out the heat and keep the regulator itself from getting too hot.

So a heat sink instead of venting or both?

Are you talking about the threaded clicky switch assembly from the bottom of the torch?

Yes. I took out the switch so it's basically a short threaded tube (the switch housing). I just needed a little more space and found that the threaded end fits the top opening of the second torch. There is a lip in the housing that I dremeled out a bit to get a little more space. It adds about 3/4 to 1 inch of additional space for my VV regulator.
