Old time vapor here, but haven't followed the the vape scene in awhile. I'm in need of some advice. Recently I changed from Kangertech Kbox subox mini rebuildable deck to their atomizers. They seemed ok at first but the cotton in them is too tight or something. They taste like burnt plastic after a 2 tank refills and if I use the rebuildable deck its just too light for me. Is there any new comparable devices that I replace and retire this thing?

Just for ....s and giggles I CT scanned my unit.

There should be lots of different options to put on top, I think. I could be wrong (I'm far from a KT expert, I don't love their products), but you might check to see if they take any other coils, too? I'm thinking they don't.

Also, what vape experience are you looking for, like Mouth to lung, vs direct to lung? I've tried enough tanks and a RTA to know that there is going to be a place in my vaping world for the Nautilus 2 tank, even though I did just buy a Kabuki, so maybe they'll retire (they take Nautilus coils, though). I have to say that as far as coils, I really love the taste and ease of vape of Nautilus coils, and the Nautilus 2 coils come in sizes from 1.8 down to 0.7, so you can get a more airy/cloudy draw out of it with the 0.7 coil, and the flavor is great.

Hope something in the above helps, I'm sure those with more knowledge will be along to add ideas :)

That's actually a pretty nice rig you have there. That burnt taste may be caused by one or both of two things: a wicking problem or too much wattage for the coil.

The OCC coils in the Subtank Mini wick pretty well, but if you're driving the installed 0.5 ohm coil at the max of 50 watts, then without wide open airflow and longer than about a 4-5 second draw, the risk of the coil head not being able to take up enough liquid goes up. Boom-dry hit about halfway through your puff. I rarely push my 0.5 coils at above 40 watts, even on a mod that is capable of 75 watts. The coil just can't keep up.

Try obtaining a new 0.50 ohm coil, prime it per instructions. Drop the wattage down to 17-22 watts and, after taking a few unpowered draws, power the mod and take a good drag. There will be very little vapor at first. Slowly increase the wattage, about 5 watts at a time and alternate unpowered with powered draws. At somewhere between 30 and 40 watts, vapor should be fuller and more flavorful.

Higher VG liquids will take a little longer to hit the sweet spot. After about a half tank, the coil should be broken in.

Higher PG liquids won't take as long--they wick better and can be driven a little harder, maybe even at the full 50 watts your mod is capable of. But as soon as you taste something off/burning, back off the wattage or you'll scorch--and ruin--the cotton in the coil head.

tl;dnr: back off of the wattage and increase airflow while taking shorter drags.

My wife is in that Subtank tootle puffer range but she was on to the Baby Beasts for some time. She used the .4Ω at roughly 35w for a good while. This tanks are 100% bullet proof as discovered by the woman who can break any vape gear.

I kept building here RTS's to save buying coils and I finely hit pay dirt with the Super Tank Mini RTA. These are pretty cheap, insanely easy to build and 80% reliable. It has a leak I haven't been able to track dowm. Small issue but its there.

Thanks for the feedback. Most of my OCC coils I use are .5 ohms running around 25W. I have never had any coil from kangertech last long with higher wattage. The best I can do with these coils is pull some cotton out through the holes or move it around with a pick to allow better juice flow. I know they updated their coils from the square form factor to round ones. I think the old ones were better. The unit is good and I don't mind the actual mod just the coils don't last a day or too. Might be the juice, 70/30 mix. Maybe just getting a new tank that will work with it is what I need. The other note is, rebuilding is a pain in the ... and gets tedious on a weekly basis. I could get a tank system for when im out and about and get a rebuildable for just at home.

There's a trick i know for smok coils, but i'm ready to bet anything it's worth a shot for any type of factory coils and it's an easy one : take a pin needle (something pointy and extremely small, and simply poke 2 holes top and bottom on each of the coil's juice flow. If you weren't burning the coils (of if they didn't have like that plastic burnt taste) then forget i mentionned this XD

I like airy mouth to lung hits.

Yeah I tried poking holes in the cotton too. It worked maybe 50/50 of the time. I know that if i mess with the cotton too much it ruins the atomizer as a whole. lol go figure.

You know, funny you ask I was seeing there is two version out there a 225w and a 175W. This one has the extra back door for 3 batteries. Box says 2 cover version and doesn't actually say Duo-3 on it.

Yeah, I think they released it as a two battery mod with the cover being an extra and it ...... people off. I still see the single back option occasionally. As clearly as I can understand it the chip is designed to accommodate both with higher Wattage available if you put three batteries in the thing.
