You've searched and did not discover that PG and VG are both hydroscopic? Instead, why not try the most common trick to help determine if you are dehydrated: the colour of your urine! If it's yellow, you are already below optimum hydration levels. And of course, you don't have to believe me, you can search PubMD for papers on dehydration as well as the effects of PG (have not done a VG search yet)!

I've also always thought that PG and VG could not possibly be a significant contributor to dehydrating us. Yes PG is hygroscopic, but just how much water will it suck out of us? Let's say 1 ml of PG will absorb 1 ml of water. So if someone vapes 10 ml of juice a day they could possibly lose 10 ml of water a day from vaping.

I suspect my example is very generous to the efficiency of the hygroscopic nature of PG. juice is also not 100% PG. I suspect there is also an element of time involved, in that PG doesn't instantly absorb all the water it can, it takes a while.

However, looking at my numbers above, if we need to intake 2,000 ml of water a day to replace what we output, I doubt outputting an extra 10 ml a day, 0.5% of 2,000 ml, will cause us to dehydrate. I really doubt it will make any difference at all.

If I understand right you went from 100% PG to 100% VG and your symptoms changed. Why not try the middle at a 50/50 mix. Maybe the extremes are causing the problem. Agree with most that hydrating will help too. I'm very bad at it too but when II do make a conscious effort a drinking more water I feel less symptoms.

Minimum 64 oz water a day, I normally do about 120. How many ml of juice are you going through a day? Consider upping your nicc and vaping less, Do you do mouth hits or lung hits? If you're pulling directly into the lungs with your setup it can be a pretty tight pull, maybe you are working too hard to lung hit. try mouth hitting.

Too much nicotine. Drop to 6mg and see how that affects you. I started at 12mg and had some one the same symptoms. I dropped to 6mg and things got better. Also, try another juice vendor. I've tried a bunch and sometimes I get a few issues with certain ones. Could be the flavoring they use for instance.

Yes I agree PG and VG is slightly hydroscopic in nature and can absorb up to 40% of its original volume in water.... so if you vape 3 ml a day it will "absorb" 1.2 ml of water. Seems that really isnt all that much water...

Since I do 100% VG juices.... I suppose I dont get the same results as people who do PG. And as far as color goes, it has stayed the same as even before I started vaping.

Hi everyone I'm new here... am slightly anxious to hear about the possible allergies to PG/VG, have also read about juices with alcohol or even distilled water, is that any safe or any negative side effects to either health or taste?

Vaping is a safer alternative to smoking.... vaping isnt 100% safe...
kinda like smoking = getting shot with a 44 mag and vaping is like getting shot with a 22

all this dehydration chatter about having to consume massive amounts of water since one vapes seems a bit far fetched....
I have searched for information ( medical proof) on vaping and dehydration and cant find anything that states vaping causes it.

does someone have a link that has this information??? A bonafied study done by a Medical Institute??

I think the dehydration thing is a myth...

I agree, to a point. I think it has gotten misconstrued really. Yes, PG and VG are both substances that have a drying effect...but in my experience and general logic, I don't think it is enough to dehydrate your entire body. Rather, it has more of a drying effect of the parts of the body it comes into contact with, such as the lips, tongue, throat, etc. I mean, a paper towel essentially dehydrates what it touches, but holding a paper towel in your mouth all day isn't going to dehydrate your entire body.
However, on that note...you should always drink lots of water daily...it is all around good for you anyway.

To the OP..it sucks to hear about your issues but the good news is the doc gave an all clear. This might come with some scoffing from folks, but do you think that any of this could be somewhat psychological? I only say this because I went through something similar when I first started vaping...had really weird sensations...BUT I have an anxiety disorder and this causes me to be hyperfocused sometimes on things the most ppl wouldn't notice...as soon as I got the point where I just stopped focusing on them, they all stopped. I am only suggesting this because it sounds as though you have explored most avenues that could be causing this. Good luck!

Maybe try not inhaling. Just in the mouth and out the nose or mouth, whatever pleases? I've come to understand that vaping PG and VG basically coats your lungs, making it more difficult to breathe. Both are processable by your body, but there is still a coating in your lungs even if the juice is 0mg nicotine. It will still coat the lungs. Just an idea. Good luck.

Just wanted to post a follow up update, in case someone somewhere out-there is having a similar issue...

So it seemed that the inhalation of the vapor was causing all the issues for me. I had to find a way to stop vaping (and of course, not go back to analogs in the process). I loaded up with 0mg nicotine juice, and went with the stage 2 nicotine patch and limited myself to mouth/nose hits only as earthbot suggested. It's day 5 now, and I feel much much better (upper back soreness / fatigue / throat clearing all disappeared). To be quite honest, I'm really starting to get into the habit of mouth/nose only vaping.

I don't want to deter anyone from vaping, as it did successfully get me off the analogs which at times I thought I would never be able to do. The all day inhalation of vapor, for me anyway, seemed to be doing a number on me. It may be a sensitivity, inhale method, the juice, the blend, the amount of water --- it's hard to say, but after feeling like crap for almost a year, I'm just glad to be better and don't want to experiment further to find out. The good news is that I'm on my way to do away with nicotine, yet still found a way to enjoy vaping without further issue. Also, I want to note that if you have any vaping linked symptoms similar to mine, the issues are nearly all gone in one day's time once stopped.
