I just got all my supplies lined up to DIY.
While reading the recipes, I saw where they started with 24 mg nic base and by the time they finished adding the VP and flavoring, they ended up with a 12mg juice.
I bought a straight PG base of 100 nic, and was prepared to dilute it to 24 nic base.
But ... according to the recipes, by the time I add my VG and flavorings when creating a juice I won't have 24 mg.
So before I start diluting the 100% down, what percentage should I aim for to be able to end up using it to get a 24mg base ?

I got tired of ordering (60 some bottles) of premix, and not liking them or mixing them up to make a descent vape.
Out of all I ordered, I only like about 5 or 6.
I really want to make my own, but I need some help to get started on the right percentages.
My taste buds have not improved in 3 months, so I'll probably start my flavoring at 20%
Also, right now, my base is straight PG and I will want a 80/20 or 70/30 final mix.
I don't know if I should mix them as a part of the dilution process, or keep it straight PG, and then figure on adding the VP as part of the recipe.
YUP ... I need some advice !

Get the ejuicemeup calculator. You will have the correct amount of nic when you are finished.

20% flavoring sounds a little high to me.

All you have to do is the math to get to the 24 of the total. It's the wonderful thing of 100 mg. easy math. So if you're making 10 ml then you would need 2.4 ml of the 100. 15 ml would be 3.6. And so on. Whatever the total is you're making, the 100 mg should constitute 24% of the volume.

flintlock is right though. The calculator makes it as easy as it gets.

so this is what I do to make it super easy on myself.
I have my pre-made VG/PG in a squeeze bottle ready to go mixed at 70/30, if you want it thicker or looser just think about the amount of PG in the flavors you put in and if your nic is VG mixed or PG mixed.... if its all pg you might end up with a 50/50 if so.

So you take your empty bottle... lets just say a 10ml. be sure to measure the fluid in the bottle since its not marked by filling up a syringe and filling it with water to measure exactly how much the bottle holds. Some plastic bottles Ive seen hold 12ml when they said it was a 10.
This will make the juice taste different/nic different

If you have 100mg nic start by putting that in first unmixed, ie, if its a 10ml bottle and you want 24mg nic, put 2.4ml.

You don't need a fancy calculator to do this sort of math. its freakin simple.

Next put your flavoring in, if you want it at 20%, put 2ml... see where this is going? if you want to put it at 18% 1.8ml

And put your flavoring at whatever the hell you want. its your tastebuds, experiment with the flavors, thats the funnest part about learning how to DIY.

And finally, and the best part is you dont have to measure anything, fill up the rest of the bottle with your premix VG/PG blend.
It takes me literally like 1 min to make a bottle of juice.

If you are using bigger bottles just use this formula, ie 24mg = 2.4ml per 10, 30 ml bottle, 2.4 x 3, there you go

Last piece of advice, Keep it simple, all the programs and fancy calculators are going to take away from the fun of experimenting.

and RTSvapes.com has the best mixing stuff around. imo

I buy my nic at 48 and dilute it down, so if you dilute it by half to 50mg you'll be fine.

With your flavoring, start low, about 5%. You can always add more if needed. Recipes will vary depending on the flavor. Percentages range from 1% to 30%. Individual tastes and flavor concentrations vary widely.

I use the calculator recommended by flintlock. I also recommend reading and studying the information in the DIY section of the forum. Good luck!

I never work with 100mg base, I always dilute it down before working with it.
I usually dilute down to 25mg before I do anything else.
Lets say I want 40ml of 25mg base, I'll mix 10ml of 100mg nic with 30ml of pg to get 40ml of 25mg nic.
I'll then use 25mg in the calculator and add more pg, vg and flavors accordingly.

Is there a good kit for new people to start with? I want to get into DIY and have an idea what I need to buy, but a kit sounds easier.

go to RTSvapes, buy some 100mg nic, some PG <its cheap as hell>, and VG <cheap>, and pick out some flavorings, I suggest TFA,

As far as equipment goes, I work in a hospital so I just lift all the measuring stuff and syringes I need.
Either just buy some or make friends with a nurse so they can lift you some haha

Yes, and welcome to the forum by the way!

Example:
One of my recipes.....
Nicotine strength e-juice PG 50%/VG50% ...... 100mg
Target nicotine strength ...... 18mg
Amount to make ..... 10ml
Raspberry ..... 10%
Strawberry ..... 5%

The results are:
Nicotine e-juice 1.8ml, or 18%
PG 65% ..... 3.56ml, or 35.6%
VG 35% ..... 3.14ml, or 31.4%
Raspberry .....1ml, or 10%
Strawberry ..... 0.5ml, or 5%

All the ingredients combined equal 100%

Note: Please be extremely careful, and wear gloves when handling 100mg nicotine.
Use nothing but a syringe when measuring. DON"T COUNT DROPS! EVER!

Edit: Wizard Labs is a great place to get supplies. They are down right now though because of relocating. I love their blunt syringe tips. I use either a 18 ga or 14 ga tips. The 14 ga is almost a necessity when working with VG.

Thanks for the reply
Are you saying to just leave my base alone at 100 nic and just enter that in the caculator (yes I did find it already)

I also found the downloadable calculators to be too busy.
this one is simple and you'll only need it if you start making crazy mixes, other wise just do the math in your head or on a regular calculator
Flint is right, don't ever do drops, unless when you start putting koolada or menthol into the mixes, b/c you wont be measuring out ml.
think of it like sprinkling pepper or something, and then just keep records of the seasonings you add, ie 4 drops of menthol per 10ml gives it a nice menthol... or whatever.

and if you want, I came up with something outrageously yummy, 20% pomegranate with a few drops of peppermint, I did 4 drops per 10ml... came out great
