i thought i'd try the ethyl maltol, so i purchased some, added 1/4 tsp to 10ml pg (which was recommended on this forum). this mixture tasted like nothing so i added another 1/4 tsp. there still is no taste to it at all. not the slightest bit of sweet. also there is still a tiny bit left in the bottom, i can't get it to dissolve completely. what did i do wrong? there is no way my ethyl maltol mix would make a cotton candy-flavored juice. could the stuff i bought be old or something? thanks for any tips.

I think EM might be an ingredient in cotton candy juice, but I don't think it's as close to the whole deal as it might be represented here. I don't think it's the best sweetener option. I also want to warn you to go easy on it as there has been at least one or two reports of it raising blood sugar if over used. I don't have any hard facts, but I tend to believe that.
i also read that thread about it raising blood sugar. i did find some info on another website that stated only a small amount can be dissolved in the pg (don't remember what the amount was). if too much is added it will not dissolve completely. i guess this is what happened to mine.

EM is indeed the flavoring used in Cotton Candy. Do NOT vape this solution alone, its used like any other flavoring at smaller percentages. Every chemical solution has an absolute saturation point, so putting more in and having some float and not dissolve simply means that you have exceeded that point. I use PGA personally, and I know some have reported that PG takes an overnight stint to completely dissolve. Running the bottle under a hot water stream and shaking for several minutes also helps. I use it in small quantities - usually don't exceed 1 drop per mL of juice Im making... but Im still messing around with it to find the absolute potential of it.
As far as it being a sweetner, that is not completely accurate. Its not the same as using something like sucralose. EM will add a bit of sweet, but its more of a flavor toning additive.
I haven't tried it, but Id presume a juice made at around 10-15% of EM along with a drop of sweetener per mL, would be the actual cotton candy recipe.

If you nuke it, it will dissolve better. I don't use it as a sweetener per say, add it to TA and the tobacco extract mixes I do. Thats how I mix it also, just keep adding and nuking until it won't disolve anymore. Can't get carried away though because it will try to settle out of solution when it cools down.
as of now it's mostly dissolved. i am going to order some cotton candy e-juice to find out what taste it is i am looking for. there isn't the slightest bit of taste at all to this stuff i have. it could be my taste buds.

EM isn't considered a sweetener in the food biz, it's considered a flavor enhancer.
I use liquid Stevia, purchased from GNC. 1 drop per mL in my DIY juices for sweetness. It's ~$20/ bottle, but should last me beyond the expiration date (12/2015) lol.
I've only dissolved EM in PGA per your measurements. I add that by the drop to DIY mixes for sweetness. I don't prefer the EM sweetness, tho. Stevia's the way to go IMO.
