Ok so i got the new protank 4 and so far Ive just used the pre-made SSOCC and I like it but I would really like to try the pro rba but I want to use silica instead of cotton. There are tons of videos showing how to wick the pro RBA with cotton but I cant find 1 video showing how to wick it with silica. Can someone please help me? You can use silica with it right? Ive always just used the pre-built coils but I want to learn how to wrap my own. I bought the coil master but thats only for cotton right or wrong??? PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME!!! Oh yea i would like to make a dual coil and my prefered ohm is 1.5ohm because I like mouth to lung vaping. HELP!!!!!!!!!

The coil master is just for wrapping coils.

I've never experimented with silica but I would imagine the installation is similar to cotton where you install the wick into the coil (as you've seen on videos).

Now the tricky part is how long the wicking material (silica) needs to be at the ends. Hopefully someone here can chime in soon. OR you can experiment on your own. If you end up with dry hits then theres too much wick meaning the ends are too long. If you end up with a leaking tank at the bottom then that means theres not enough wick.

Silica is far more rigid and doesn't compress like cotton so it can be difficult to get into a prewrapped coil. The standard used to be to steady the silica with a needle or some other thin support and simply wrap the wire tightly (but not too tightly) around that. Remove the needle/pin when finished and install the coil in your atomizer.

I'm thinking dual coils will be difficult as the process described above doesn't produce very uniform coils, and dual coils need to be close to identical. Is there any particular reason why you prefer silica?

Thank you guys I finally tried cotton instead of silica and it is way better. Now Im having another problem im hoping someone can help me out with.I want to build a dual coil on the Pro Rba that comes with the Protank 4 and i want my target resistance to be 1.5ohm. I know that means I need two 3ohm coils but im having some problems understanding it. On steam-engine it says I would need 11 wraps with 32AWG wire but thats with me leaving the "inner diameter of coil" at 1.3 and "leg length" at 5. I dont kn ow if thats right, thats what it was set to before i entered the 32AWG wire and what ohm i wanted. Can someone tell me if thats right? Or how to figure out the diameter of the wire. And the biggest question is, Does anyone know how many wraps will even fit on the Pro Rba?! I picked 32AWG cuz of the 11 wraps but other people tell me thats too thin and to use 26 or 28AWG. Someone please help me out. Thanx.

It's correct its the default.... but it might not be right for you or your application.
I would go to at least a 2 mm id. You will have to measure or calculate leg lenth your self. It the distance from the center of the coil to the posts. I would use the 32 if i was using this mechnicals or with a low power regulated mod. If i wanted to run at more than say 15 watts i would look to heavier wires.
Which wire to use is where the wattage setting and heat flux help to decide.

Well I tried using 30AWG wire with the coil master and it does not work which makes me angry because im thinking i wasted my money on it. Why is it so hard to make my own 1.5ohm dual coil?!?! Very frustrating! I guess im just destined to use the pre-built coils. Because 30awg needs 11 wraps to get what i need and half the coil unravels as soon as i take the top part of the coil master off. So I obviously need a thicker coil but theres no way im going to be able to that because for 24awg wire i need 38 wraps and theres no way that would fit on the pro rba so i have no clue what to due, im screwed. Thanks for all your help anyway guys, much appreciated.

Well if you can somehow get the coil into your base and heat it u can put the shape back together, if it completely unravels to the point of no return then maybe, not sure but worth a try: cut the length you plan on wrapping, get it really hot, with a torch or something or maybe running some current through it? This should harden up the metal. From what I hear. Your problem if I remember is you want such a high ohm with a double coil. Any reason you don't try it with a little less ohmage? I was like you at the beginning until I started wrapping my own. Now I'm in love with .25 dual claptons. On everything

I guess i could try a lower ohm like maybe 1.2ohm. I like it to feel like im hitting a cigarette and from the coils ive tried(which really arent that many) 1.5ohm coils and e juice with 24mg nicotine and PG65% VG35% works perfect. People have told me if I go lower in the ohms it wont hit as much like a cigarette(throat hit) but instead be mre smoother and provide more vapor. Thats why I use 1.5ohm. Ive only ever tried 1.8ohm, 2ohm 2.2ohm and 1.5ohm was the best so ive stuck with it. Im not made of oney so I didnt want to buy a 5 pack of a different ohm and then I not like it and it end up being a waste of money. If the information im saying is wro ng feel free to correct me cuz like i said i was told this by a couple of people.
