So I'm finally upgrading, just waiting on my shipment. I got the Itaste MVP 3, and I got a Kanger subtank nano to go with it. I don't know much of anything about voltage and wattage necessary for different resistance coils.

So my main question is around what voltage and wattage would be a sweet spot for a .5 ohm occ, and also what for the 1.2 ohm occ? One of each coil come with the tank. Also which resistance coil do you guys prefer between a. 5 and a 1.2?

I just don't want to mess around and blow up my vape or something lol. I just need some advice to get started. I'll go to my local vape shop for help also, but would like an idea before it arrives.

Thanks, this is my first post here be nice lol.

I'm waiting for Susan-S to come along with her ready tobgo, copy and pasted, response for everytime I see a resistance question or battery safety question in regards to sub ohming... Dont worry Im sure shell be along shortly to plop down a post with a plethora of useful information to help. I'd type it myself...but thatd take a while...Generally though anywhere around 3.5-4.8v is a comfortable vaping experience. Some go much higher but I find my happiness around 4.6v @80watts

Well the .5 ohm coil will run best around 25.5 watts or less the 1.2 ohm coil between 12 and 18 watts is usually pretty good just remember these coils are designed to be used with a more open airflow and more of a lung hit style vape hit so if you run the power up then open the airflow up as well and give it a good pull to keep the coils from getting too hot and giving a burned taste.

Hey Dan! Welcome :)

To figure what voltage you are going to get based on a wattage setting, a little bit o' math:

Watts = Volts ^ 2 / Resistance. So to convert, Volts = sqrt(Watts * Resistance) To keep it simple in my head, with the 0.5 ohm coil, you'd need to set the mod to 32 watts so that 4 volts gets applied across the coil sqrt(32 * 0.5) = 4.0 Personally, too hot for me!

To find *YOUR* sweet-spot, start fairly low (10W?) and start nudging your way up (after you've very properly soaked the coil so you don't burn the cotton!) As soon as you get an unpleasant taste, back it off, and you should be in *YOUR* zone.

I've run the 0.5 coils around 20-22W, the 1.2 coils around 15-18W. More than that is unpleasant for *ME* I have started rebuilding the OCCs, and I'm trying to land around 1ohm.

Just play with it (but don't hit a brand new coil with crazy watts - you might burn :( Blech)

Okay I'll be able to play around with that a little bit then. Wouldn't I run the voltage pretty low with such a low resistance coil? Like I run my 1.8 between 3.3-3.8 which is the lower setting on my spinner. If I go higher I get that burnt taste. Not sure how low or high vv goes on my new mvp I'll look it up.

But I'd imagine running it at like 3 volts at most right?

Well, if the mvp 3 is any thing like the mvp 2, you set the wattage you want and it applies the "correct" voltage to your coil for that setting/resistance combo. While I used my mvp I never even looked at voltage, I only used wattage.
It's the same with my ipv mini 2 now. I change out tanks/coils and set the wattage and it applies the correct voltage.

Welcome :)

I haven't tried the 1.2 coils yet but on my ST mini the 0.5 heads run nicely at 25W on my istick 50 will full airflow open.
Different airflow setting and different juice may affect your sweet spot. So make sure your new coil is primed nicely, start off at a lower setting and work your way up slowly to find your sweet spot. If you get a slight burnt taste go back down a little and all is good.

Not sure what equipment you used before, but you may well want to drop your nic level on the 0.5 heads and maybe even a higher vg content if it feels a little harsh.

Welcome and congratulations on an excellent choice! I just got the same combo a few weeks ago. Best advice is to start the watts lower (I say 12 to 15) and work your way up. I'm not the most technical guy I study at the school of hard knocks....I've killed a wick and made myself ill trying to vape that combo like my old Evod. Lately, my personal Max is 25 watts on the .5 and 21 on the 1.2. Some go higher some lower, but you'll also notice the vape can be warm and the Subtank will drain juice. Happy vaping!

On VV/VW devices you will only set one or the other. There is a relationship between ohms, voltage and watts. (Amps also figures in, but that's not one of the variables that devices allow you to control) look up ohms law. That's what DingerCPA was doing in his post above.

her ;)

I'm like Yorkshire, I tend to set watts and let the volts be what they may. You may certainly set volts, and the watts will calculate accordingly. It gets confusing - one thinks that one can set "both". You can't.

On the MVPs (I only have the 2.0) you can use a sequence of button presses to toggle between Volts or Watts. The volts can adjust by 0.1V increments, but the watts can only adjust by 0.5W increments. So, you may get a "finer-tuned" vape by adjusting the VOLTS.

Another thing is when you set for Watts, that's what you're going to get. If you put a 1Ω coil on with a setting of 16W, the device will change the output to produce 4V. If you put a 2Ω coil on at 16W, the MVP is going to try to shove 5.66V across that coil. That'll likely fry things.

On the flip side, if you set the device for 3.5V and put on the 1Ω head, you'll yield about 12.25W. Put the 2Ω coil on that same voltage setting, and you'll get a much cooler vape because you're only yielding 6.13W

I have finally learned to not necessarily "vape to a number" I have become familiar with the ranges where my heads work, and I just move accordingly.

See you guys keep mentioning wattage, but no mention of voltage. Surely, that is important as well?

Also, thanks for the quick help everyone! You guys are awesome.

There are several ohm's law calculators, so if we keep giving you wattage advise, plug in the resistance of the coil your using as well as the wattage recommendation and it'll spit out a voltage for you. Think of it as a translator between English and Vaping Speak! Good luck!

Guess I need a new battery. I'm trying to run my Nano on my spinner.... not working.

Uhhhh, nope - it would be pretty tough, at least for the 1.2 ohm head. I don't think it will even fire with the 0.5 ohm head....

Ummmm, "Darn, you have to get a new battery?"

;)
