Need some advice, just starting out

I am new to electronic cigs and I could use some advice. I had previously used the njoy brand from 7-11, but found it too expensive to keep buying the disposable cartomizers. Last week I purchased a smokefree from a place in the mall. My first atomizer was bad, I was getting little capper and when I took it back they said the wick was too far recessed. My new one gets better vapor. While there I liked up some refillable cartomizers for my work day. I am finding though that I am getting more vapor with my cartomizers than my new atomizer. Btw I don't direct drip. Am I doin something wrong or is my new atomizer bad too? I do get more capper than I did with the first one as the new ones wick is not as far recessed. I just always thought atomizers made more vapor. I get better taste with the atty but more vapor with the carto. Thank you in advance for your help!

To each his own, but I like cartos better. Like you said the flavor is better with an atty, but for ease of use and consistency cartos are the way to go, IMO. I use an eGo (510) and I have found I like the Kanger XL (horizontal coil) cartos best. They are consistent, hold a lot of juice (approx 2 ml), and are dependable. I carry an extra one with me, but have yet to have one "die" I just vape them till the flavor/vapor production starts going south and chunk them. A 5 pack at myvaporstore.com is about 7 bucks. I get about 15ml average through 1 carto.

In the future, you might want to consider getting something like this-

Battery will last you 11+ hours. Get that, a box of 1.7 smoktek cartomizers,a drip tip and bottle of juice and you will be amazed~

KGO 1100 mAh 2 battery kit

I haven't tried the KGO but keep reading great things about it, so I'll have to ditto this comment and add a couple: I'd suggest ordering some sample packs of liquids, preferably from a few different vendors, to see which ones you like. I'd also get a couple of attys & a drip tip or two for testing different juices before putting them in cartos. I use 306 (dripping) attys on my E-Power a lot just for vaping while sitting at my desk... like the flavor better & don't mind the hassle... but that's just me. Whatever works.... Happy Vaping! :toast:

Thank You everyone! I really wish I would have looked online first since I paid $200 for this one!! While I won't be able to afford a new one anytime soon, I will look here for my next one. To answer a question I have 2 different flavors, and I have 2 cartomizers and one cartridge (for use with my atty) dedicated to each flavor. The cartomizers are from the same company as the cigarette and atomizer itself but I guess the cartomizers could have a different resistance? As for my atomizer I took a look at my cartridge. It's basically a plastic tube and at the end there is a small plastic pellet with what looks like cotton in it. On my new one the cotton is at the edge of the pellet whereas the old one cotton is compacted down from use. I tied the new cartridge and got a lot better vapor, so I know that helped.

What I am wondering is can I replace the cotton-like stuff with something myself? I was thinking of part of a cotton ball or a sponge but I wanted to get the opinion of you guys since you know much more than I do. The replacement are 5/$25 which is redicilous since the only part that wears out is the cotton piece.

Either way this setup is much cheaper than my old NJOY from 7-11. It's only $20 for the battery but the cartomizers are 5/$20 and can't be refilled. Worse yet they don't last long and are hard to find in my area. At the end I was getting a lt of bad ones too. I had many that had a burnt taste on the first puff and many that didn't vape because a wire wasn't set right inside. My last pack of 5 and 2 burnt and 1 with a bad wire, leaving me with 2 for $20. I do have to say the customer service was nice but it was too much hassle.

Thank You guys again for the welcomes and the advice!

I prefer the flavorful taste and vapor of a cartomizer. Atomizers, in my opinion, don't produce the amount of vapor that I like. At least you found ECF and welcome.

This has been my experience as well ... the only time I use atties these days is if I am in the mood to play with my Ego T, or I am taste testing new DIY flavors.

Cartomizers are a once and done. Wear it out and toss it. Although some have success cleaning them by boiling and letting dry a few days. For your Atty and cart the cottonish material is easily replaced to make them like new. Two common materials for refilling are polyfil like used in pillows or quilts; available in any craft section. Or look up the PTB mod. The pyramid teabag material makes a good wicking filler which is cheap easily cleanable and gives better performance then the original filler.

Thanks for the help guys, I am still using the same setup I had for now since I had spent a good amount of money on it. In the future I will be looking here for a better setup that will give me the results and reliability that I am looking for. For the most part things have been going good. Last week I did have to have my atomizer swapped out. While getting this done, the guy at the booth gave me an extra atomizer. When I first got them, both atomizers were producing the same amount of good vapor. Since then, the one that I have been using consistently over the course of the week has been producing far less vapor than the one I have not been using. I frequently test this by seeing the output of the 2 atomizers back to back.

The one that I have been using consistently is still producing a decent amount of vapor, but a lot less than the one I haven't used. At night I have been leaving the atomizer upside-down on a piece of paper towel for any excess fluid to drip out, and to my surprise most mornings the paper towel is dry, at most I have had very little fluid on the paper towel. I did look online at cleaning, and did follow a suggestion to soak the atomizer in rubbing alcohol for a few hours not only to clean out the excess fluid but clean the contacts. When I took it out I did notice the clear rubbing alcohol had a slight brown tinge from the fluid. After letting it dry out for nearly the whole day I had no vapor at all, I ended up having to use several drops of fluid to get my vapor back to what it was prior to the cleaning. The problem is now I am right back to where I started. Prior to the cleaning, I tested the amount of fluid in each by lightly dabbing a paper towel on the end of each wick. Both atomizers left what looks like the same amount of fluid on the paper towel. I did this to see if I accidentally flooded the one atomizer and not the other.

I do not know if I am doing something wrong when I use my ecig, or if I did something wrong in cleaning it. I am afraid to use my other one until I know what I should do. I do use my ecig frequently throughout the day, but both of these atomizers are only a week old, so they shouldn't be dying out that quickly, or at least I hope. I hope that the great deal of knowledge that all of you have with this can solve my vapor mystery. Once I have my answer then I will feel more comfortable switching between the 2 atomizers.

Again, I Thank You in advance for your help. All of the advice I will and have already received from all of you is greatly appreciated.
