I have a mod that I want to make out of an existing electronic that is rechargeable. Without giving too much away (cuz I would love to surprise everybody)...I need some advice.

This product is rechargable (has a 4AAA battery pack, sealed up with built in contacts) and from the batteries obviously comes the positive and negative wires. Those wires are soldered onto contacts on a board that has all the inner workings of this device. How could I route the power to go to an atomizer without hurting the functionality of this device? Do I just solder leads onto those same contacts? Or will that short everything out (having a positive wire leading to the electronics if the device, but also leading right back out to go STRAIGHT to the atomizer with a switch of course)?

If any more information is needed, let me know. I can take pictures as well, if needed. I will add a separate button for this of course (I won't use existing buttons, so as not to hurt the device). Also, I don't think that the recharging will be affected in any way, as all of the necessary safety components of this device appear to be within the battery pack.

Also, anybody know where I can find the thread in which somebody made an e-cig out of a cell phone, without hurting the cell phone? That would be useful, but I can't find it...I knew I should have saved it.

Thank you for your help!

So, kinabaloo, do you think that I can just solder my pos and neg wires that will go to my atty, directly where the pos and negative from the battery box connect to the board on this device?

I realize that this would allow the device to be off and the atty to still be usable, but would it cause any shorts? I don't know anything about that part of it all. It would just be SWEET if this thing worked after I'm done with it. I could use it for vaping AND it's intended use.

If you need pictures of the board and battery and everything, let me know, I know I don't explain things well!

WAIT! If i'm careful, I could just solder on a second positive and negative wire right onto the battery box? Is that ok to have more than one positive and negative wire coming off of a battery box? If so, great!

Yes, as I understand it you can do that and use either the atty or the intended use. But don't try both at the same time as the battery might well not be able to handle both.

This seems ok to me as both have their own switch/button; so long as there's no possibility of pressing the device button while meaning to press just the atty operate button.

You could consider using a slider switch to select which one the power is directed to, if there is space for it.

Thank you so much kinabaloo...I will definetely be doing this. I want to order another one before I do it though, I use this thing during the summer all the time and I don't want to lose my link on the world. You'll understand later. I will post results as soon as I'm done. I think it's awesome, but maybe others wouldn't.

If I'm using NiMH batteries and I accidently swith both things on at the same time (out of stupidity) what would happen? Fry the circuit board? Blow the battery pack? Or just lose power?

So long as the batteries are the protected type, just lose power.
