Hey guys,

I have a broken 5v box that I would like to fix and give away since the person that made it sent me a new one to replace it (which is not wired the same as the old one) and didn't want the old one back.

Some stuff came loose and I am not sure where it is supposed to go =) I know the red wire (see pic)
goes to the switch but the other thing that had come loose (see blue circle) isn't attached to anything but those two wires. It looks lie it should be soldered to the far left of the box where that chunk of solder sticks out. But if so...does the positive or negative side of that thing go there?

Next question:

I made a Flashlight mod last night. And yes it works but it's kinda rigged LOL I am clueless with the technical side of electronics and wasnt sure how to finish it correctly.
paw2.jpg

paw4.jpgI made the top piece where the button and connector are.

paw5.jpgI made a tube to surround the battery so it stays in place

paw3.jpgHere's the problem area.
This flashlight has a on/off switch built-in at the bottom. I don't know what to do to make it work with this mod. And while the PV works with the wire (the red one that I tried to paint black with a sharpie LOL) being connected to the spring, I know it's not the ideal way to do it. How do I get this to work without having a wire running through the tube like that and how do I get the bottom switch to work with it all? (it doesnt now).

Yes I am clueless =) So please explain like you're talking to a 10 yr old LOL technical terms will not
get processed correctly in my brain =)

hopefully this helps you on the FL issue a bit.....im not sure how you have everything wired but if you didnt mess with the base(bottom button) then that should act as your ground....and for your connecter you can solder to the side of the FL for a ground. the bottom button interups the ground so when off no ground when on ground/completed ciruit. then you make your positive connection however possible..if you added a switch put it on the positive side of your curcit(sp) then the bottom button will be an on off switch and your switch will act as the power for your atty...make sense?

for the 5v- yes the red wire needs to be re-solderd to the switch....the thing in your hand is the 5v regulator, so that will take a bout a min to fix!-)) as for your FL let me think a bit more on that so i can try and help ya out!-))

Should the regulator be attached to something? When it's in the box and i try to fire up an atty it sparks when it's touching the metal thing on the left of the box...which is why I am thinking it should be attached to the thing on the left.

With your 5v, it is real fuzzy, but I believe the negative pin was soldered directly to the contact with no wire between and the pin has broken off. The red wire goes to the switch like you presume and judging from the damage it looks like the reg got pulled out and broke off at those two points. You could look and see if there is a bit of the tab left at the regulator and if there is some in the blob of solder. I believe, but am not sure with yours, the heatsink is also a ground and you could attach a wire to that instead.

Hope this helps :)

You probably want to glue the regulator in place so that none of the terminals touch anything else inside the box. The only metal that should touch together is where the wires are soldered together.
