Hi All,

I have a feeling this is probably best asked in the mechanical mod section but since I am new here - not new to vaping (FOOB but no steep required) I can't post anywhere else :)

I did hijack another Nemesis thread in New Members area creating the same post but it's not the same problem and probably requires it's own thread.

I have a hcigar nemesis clone and I experienced a short circuit today after swapping out the springs for magnets in the switch. The whole unit including the Protank I was using super-heated the instant I fired the switch.

This only happened after I replaced the spring with magnets (I used 3 in order to stand the nemesis without autofiring). At first all was fine. But then I decided to screw the switch a little tighter to the tube (even though it was sufficiently tight already). I then fired it and it instantly shorted.

After checking the battery and making sure it was safe, I removed a magnet so there was only 2. Retested Nemesis and everything is fine again (although now the switch magnets are not sufficient to keep to nemesis from autofiring while standing now).

However, I tried to recreate the initial fault by further tightening the switch and was able to recreate the same short circuit fault again which super heated the entire unit very quickly. (I do have VTC5 batteries that did not get ruined by the short - I made sure)

When I had springs I didn't have this issue and was able to slightly over tighten the switch to the tube with no issue.

Am I just causing the problem with over tightening the base to the tube or is this an inherent potential danger with using magnets?

Just to add, the magnets I use are very brittle (2 broke already after attracting each other) and additionally their diameter barely clears the base's centre tube. This means magnets sit under the rice pin rather then around it. Could this be the root of the problem?

Thanks in advance!

You didn't rebuild the switch correctly. That bottom pin should almost always be tight or it will loosen more over time and make contact even when you don't want it to. There should be plenty of space between the magnets and trying to use the bottom pin and more magnets to rely on spacing is just a bad idea. Sitting the mod down rely on magnet strength alone, also another bad idea. As you have already found out this leads to the device auto firing.

That switch should float, even with the bottom pin completely tight. And always lock your mod when sitting it down or putting in your pocket. Never rely on spring or magnet strength to keep it from firing.

I just realised that you are talking about the silver pin. I my silver pin is always flush and tightly screwed. I've never had a problem with this, it doesn't come loose at all.

So does it sound like the inner diameter of my magnets are wrong and this is leading to a potential short if I were to over tighten the switch assembly to the main tube?

You have junk magnets! Go to FatDaddyVapes.com and order the proper ones.
Mine doesn't autofire with a huge KayFun 3.1 on it. (but I still lock it)
I even have a thin washer under the negative post to reduce the throw.

I don't follow UK vendors, so I have no idea who would carry good magnets over there.

Ok thanks I'll try and find a UK vendor with the same spec as the fat daddy vape ones.

Out of interest, why do you need to adjust the throw? Mine is tiny as standard. With the lock ring down my vent holes aren't even fully visible!
