So I'm driving down the road with my girlfriend, and she noticed a weird smell and I noticed it as well. Brushed it off as my work clothes in my back pack (I'm a chef at a seafood restaurant, it happens).
We're pulling in to a little place to get something to eat, she complained about it again so i grabbed my bag from between my legs to put it in the back seat, and noticed smoke coming from one of the side pockets. Took a peek, it was my nemesis clone with a completely melted Delrin drip tip.
This sucker was HOT. I'm a chef and I handle hot things with ease, time body of this mod had to be at least 150° f.
I threw that thing out the car window like it was a grenade.
Let about twenty minutes pass, grabbed a bandana out of my bag and unscrewed the mod to get the battery out, it's in one piece right now, and cooled back down to room temperature.
Turns out the locking ring on my nemy clone is stripped. Who knows how long it was firing.

I noticed right away the lock ring on my hcigar Nemisis clone did NOT work not only does it not work mine from time to time will stick ON after I take a hit, no matter how I adjust the firing pin. I noticed because I'd taken a hit and then I heard it hissing, I realized the darn thing sticks on. So from now on when I set it aside after vaping I pull the battery completely out. It's the only way I feel safe. My lock ring never worked and I can't even set my mod down without it firing. So again I pull battery. Yes these clones can be very temperamental and very dangerous.

Vtc4, and thank god that this build was reading about .65, way higher than I usually build mine. If it had been my usual .2 build, I'm not sure any of it would have survived

That sucks, but it does say something about safety and using good batteries. It may have cost you a mod, tip and atomizer.... but at leas you still have your car, health and girlfriend. Glad everything but the mod is ok.

I've noticed with some of my mechs that they'll fire when I sit them upright. I'm always having to fiddle with the spring and firing pin to the point that they want to fire constantly, sigh. I haven't had a problem with any locking rings to date but I'm glad you posted this so it'll make people more aware!

Lets not lump all non authentic devices into that group , this can happen and it did but it's a rare occurrence for sure , bottom line, be safety conscious and make sure you know about what your dealing with .

The OP is not at fault so don't think i am pointing at him , this is clearly a defect on a part in a device .

This is a genuine questions, and not me being a smarta-- because I really have no idea, but couldn't this problem be avoided by just taking your atty off every-time you put your mod in your pocket/bag? I think it would, but I'm not sure....

yes but odds are an authentic nemmy would not have this stripped lock ring malfunction, in that sense you get what u pay for with authentics

I have a Nemmy Clone and it looks nothing like the one in the picture the OP posted. Mine looks like a much higher quality clone. That thing barely looks like a nemmy at all to me, but it might just be a bad picture. You can kind of see mine in my Avatar, so compare that to his and you might be able to see what I mean.

Throw that mod out, go to Best Buy or Radio Shack properly dispose of that battery and count your blessings. It could have been MUCH worse! The Nemesis clone is nice but one thing I never liked about it is the fine threads, whenever I can I prefer to use my ChuYou over the Nemesis for that reason.

I'm in for a good "correct me if I'm wrong" moment, but isn't that the whole point of using the newer Li-Mn batteries? They ONLY vent, and CANNOT catch fire. As OP stated, he had a VTC4 in there, so it would have only outgassed, unlike any Li-Ion, which WOULD have erupted in flames.

What about all those Iphone/Ipod batteries exploding? You can't get much higher price than that.... Or higher quality, according to them..

If you get another nemesis clone coat all the threads in bicycle dry lube. It's good stuff and won't corrode the mod.

From what I can tell, the mod is still completely usable. I haven't tested it yet though, I'm going to wait until I get home tonight to find out. I'm not sure, however, how easy it's going to be to get that melted tip out of my top cap. But I guess we'll see

Could you not tell the threads were stripped? Typically threads don't just decide to be stripped. Something generally has to cause them to strip, whether cheap threads or wear and tear on the threads. Every time I strip a thread I know I have. I am not trying to be condescending, I own two nemy clones and just can't see how I wouldn't know the the lock wasn't stripped. Glad it was a "safe" vent for you and not a horrible incident.

As a side, be careful driving down the road with a backpack between your legs.
