Hi everyone!

Like so many others I stumbled upon this forum in search of an alternative to smoking. I currently smoke Newport Lights and I'm just ready to try something different and hopefully drop everything all together.

Anyways I have looked at so many e cigs and tried to read as much as I could before joining/posting.

Being a Newport guy I really just have a couple of questions and hopefully I'm ok to post hem here.

1) I want to go the vaping route. But where do I start? What is the best options? Price is not a concern really.

2) Where is the best place to search for the stuff I need and buy?

3) Any recommendations on liquids based on my preferred type of Cigarettes (Newport Light)? I know it won't be exactly the same but I'm looking for something that can ill that void best.

Thank You all for your help.

Hi Jrolla and welcome to ECF!

Before I make any recommendations, I need to know just a bit more about you. For instance, how many cigs do you smoke per day? Also, you say you like Newport (menthol), but what are some other flavor types you might be interested in trying (fruit, desert, coffee, tobacco, etc.)?

I've been vaping for four months now. When I started I was sure that I would only vape tobacco and a small cigalike form factor was what I wanted. What really happened was I was not happy with the performance of the small batteries and prefilled cartomizers so I got into ego and kgo batteries and recently into vv kgos from hoosierecig. Much better performance and battery life. My preferred set up at the moment is around 4 volts with a low resistance vivinova. Cost effective setup while I explore juice flavors and vendors. I did not stick to tobacco flavors. You will never find something comparable to your brand I almost guarantee it. By all means try, having something familiar will make the transition easier, but as your sense of taste and smell improve (and if you're willing to at least try different flavors) you will probably find that tobacco is not necesarilly your favorite. There is a dizzying variety of tobacco based flavors out there. Stick with usa made liquid from reputable vendors, most will add menthol to just about anything if you want it. Once you get a setup you can live with exploring juices can be tons of fun. I just wish I had a decent brick and mortar juice vendor here in Louisville so I could try more, hope theres one near you, it would make finding something you like way easier. Good luck!

Okay, the previous poster doesn't realize that it's irrelevant what other flavors you like.

I was a Newport smoker. For 2 months, my goal was to find something that vaped like a Newport. I finally created a DIY with McKormick Coffee Extract that tasted like ash. Then I realized that I didn't need the Newport taste anymore, because I didn't remember what it tasted like.

My recommendation: Volcano Menthol Burst. This e-liquid is perfect for quieting the Newport cravings. If you really want the Newport experience: RTS/Flavour Art Chinese Tobacco "C" + menthol + 2-5% peach. DIY is fairly easy. Been doing it since my 2nd month.

I know 3 years ago when I first started off, I felt the same way. I started with a plain old 510 battery with some tobacco flavors. It was rough starting out, it seemed like this whole vaping thing really sucked. Then I replaced my 510's with eGos, tried some other flavors, and I've never looked back. Now, three years later, I still use an eGo, and I've never settled on any one flavor, go figure. Every single person that I talk to about vaping, I recommend exactly the same thing. Get an eGo kit, they run about $60 and come with two batteries, a charger, and something to vape. There are tons of rebranded eGos out there, but they are all basically the same. I've had one eGo battery for over two years that still works great. There's so many options available these days, and the amount of money you can spend is almost limitless depending on your budget. In the end though, until you decide if vaping is for you, you just can't beat an eGo kit for the price. Take a look at myvaporstore, cignot, madvapes, and ecigexpress. I've ordered from all of these vendors, and many more, and I'm sure others will chime in with they're own favorties.

Hello

Welcome to the forums. I'm still new to vaping and never thought I would be able to quit. I first started with Mistics that I saw at Walmart. I used to see them every time I purchased analogs but never thought I could give up the real thing. Well when i finally got them I thought they were ok. They did help suppress the urge to smoke analogs but I think it was more mental thinking than satisfying my carvings. It was even harder for my wife to switch.

Researched a little more online about e-cigs. (more like obsessed) Decided to try out an ego twist with a stardust and tank cartomizer. I found out that there was a E-cig shop nearby and convinced my wife to go with me. Before I left I grabbed one of my winter jackets and found a pack of analogs I forgot about. My wife and I lit one up for old times sake. Man it tasted so nasty. My wife is usually a chain smoker and couldn't even take 2 puffs. This is after just 6 days of quiting. It left a nasty after taste. When I bought the ego battery, we loaded up the stardust not knowing what to expect. From the first puff, the vapor, throat hit, and the flavor of the liquid was amazing. I knew right then and there that I can quit analogs with no problems. My wife took a hit from it and loved it, so I went back into the store and picked her up her own. Haven't had an urge to smoke at all ever since.

Sorry, I know that this wasn't any of the answers you were asking for in your post. But I wanted to share to you my transition from analogs to e cigs. Good Luck and i hope your able to quit and start a new healthier and cheaper way of life.

Welcome fellow noob! Unfortunately I am not a menthol smoker nor have I been doing this long enough to provide any advice but did want to say hi and welcome you here. The amount of info contained in these forums can seem overwhelming but it is definitely THE place to learn all about every aspect of vaping.

Good luck and hope to see you around!

Before you start listening to the hundreds or maybe thousands of recommendations, you need to know the basics. I recommend going to the very top of this page in the upper left hand corner and look for the tab that says Info Zone. Click there and you will see references to New Vapors which explain the various options open to you. Once you understand the "basic" terms, you can decide on what "hardware" to start out with. Once you choose your "hardware" vaping device, you can visit various vendors and try some tobacco menthol flavors. Purchase small amounts to try even though the shipping cost is sometimes as much as the e-liquid. If you do have more questions, try the search engine and if you cannot find an answer, you can then post. Best Wishes and Good Luck

Welcome to the forum and congrats on taking the first steps to quitting stinkys!! Ego Twists or Vision 1300mah Spinners are very good choices. Look into Vivi Novas and Kanger T3 Clearomizers.:vapor:

Kanger + 1000 mAh ego passthrough saved my lungs in the beginning. Then I got bit by the mod/rba bug.

Hi Blu,

I smoke half a pack or so per day during the week. But on Weekends if I'm out at the bar it can be up to a full pack a day.

At this point I am only really interested in the Menthol flavor but cherry or vanilla might be something I would try.

I never cared for menthol cigarettes, but I did try a sample of an e-juice called "Frost Blossom" from AliceInVapeland that I liked very much. It reminded me somewhat of the cool feeling in the mouth that menthol cigs give. Frost Blossom had a mint flavor that tasted somewhat like a mild version of a menthol cigarette, but with a much more pleasant (to me, anyway :) flavor overall.

There's a lot of talk in these forums about "out growing" cig look-a-likes. When I'm at home, I usually do prefer something smaller. But I've got 7 KR808 batteries (78mm Volt brand from Smokeless Image) and I really like the small, light package and the cartomizers that last weeks refilling with my own juice. I take it with me to vape when I'm out and about. Sometimes, I even vape it at home. When it comes to getting the right equipment, keep in mine that If it's a quality unit, you'll usually find a way to enjoy

Also, even if you'll never recapture the flavor of the cigarette (and soon enough, you probably won't want to), tobacco is an amazing and complex flavor and there are some really terrific naturally extracted tobacco (NET) flavors out there if you're interested in exploring. Check out the Natural Tobacco thread in the General E-Liquid discussion forum.

You've come to the right place. ECF is great.

I have been researching for hours now. What are your thoughts on this kit?

Joyetech Joye eGo-C XXL 1000mAh Starter Kit | Joyetech eGo-C E Cigarette

Given your current habit, the eGo-C starter kit might work for you, at least as a first step. I got one as my second kit in my vaping journey and I was satisfied with it for a couple of months, but then I was a full pack per day smoker of full flavor non-menthol so I decided to keep looking for something that worked better for me. There are vapers on this forum who still use the eGo-C system and are quite satisfied.

As for e-liquid, I recommend ECBlend E-Liquids - Something Better for their good prices and quality liquids. Their are other places that you'll eventually find which offer gourmet flavors and charge more, but ECBlend is a good place to start to figure out which flavor profiles you like. If you scroll down toward the bottom of their home page, you'll find a discount code for 20% off.

I've been going back and forth on the twist and the spinner.

I use several Twist batteries in my "travel" kit along with Kanger T2 and Kanger MT3 clearomizers, and they serve me well. If you go the way of the Twist / Spinner, you may want to piece together your own kit that consists of 2 batteries (900 mAh or better), a couple of clearomizers, eGo charger, USB wall adapter, and a case if you want one. Putting together this kit will cost about the same as the eGo-C kit you linked above and should provide good service for quite some time.

If you go with clearomizers, the most popular right now appear to be the Vision ViVi Nova (mini for the eGo setup), Kanger T2, and Kanger T3 (or MT3). The ViVi Nova and Kanger T2 are both top coil clearomizers, while the Kanger T3 and MT3 are bottom coil, and I actually like both setups for particular flavors. Each of these also has replacement heads (coil and wick), so be sure to pick up a couple of replacements if / when you order the clearomizer.

With all things vaping, backups are important so you don't find yourself without a way to get your nicotine should something fail. Always be sure to have at least 2 batteries going so you can use one while the other is charging, and it's not a bad idea to have a spare or two in the drawer as well. If you use clearos, be sure to have at least couple of extra heads in your stash. And for e-liquid, make sure you order more before you're down to the last couple of days supply.

Hope this helps.

The ego and vivi combo worked for me, I was a 2 pack a day smoker cause of stress from work. It surprised me how easy it was for me to switch to e-cigs, considering I've tried a lot of things to kick the habit. I just had to start out with a high nic content juice cause I know it would help me fight off my urge for analogs.
