Capacity and internal resistance tests would be interesting.

Agree. That's a really good fake that would fool most of us. Testing capacity would reveal the truth, but you can't do that with mail order or the local vape shop unless you buy it.

It's why I buy from established battery vendors only.

The new Murata VTC6 have a red wrapping. Let`s see how long it takes until the counterfeiters catch on.

I don’t think that’s a Murata wrap. I think that’s a rewrapped or overwrapped cell with data to comply with regulations (partially) or just a basic wrap.

There’s no manufacturer name, no UL logo, and no date/batch code. These are all present on the cells with their original wraps (seen through the wraps). Murata does not have to identify their batteries as Li-Ion batteries to their industrial/commercial customers. :)

Since Sony claims the VTC6 to be a 30a cell in their datasheet, albeit with a temp limit of about 80°C as far as I remember.
    OK, you're right about that.

But I'd still be shocked if Sony themselves would put "30A" on a wrap without mention of the temperature limit.

Shocked? No. Not really. It's just a "max rating". It won't blow up in your face right away at 30A, although performance and cyclelife will be abyssmal at this level of course.

i still believe there is NO 3000mah and 30A battery...18650
    i do believe is a 3000mah with 18-21A ... like LG's HG2....

    Regards,
That's the beauty in all batteryratings.
As there is no standard, every manufacturer and batterytester makes up its own guess, what the actual rating of a cell might be.
But yeah, you're right. I personally wouldn't use the VTC6 (or 30Q/HG2) at currentlevels above 15A, because there are much better choices in the long run.

exactly, i always trust LG ones or Samsung 25R's, thats my whole battery reserve made of, i dont get re-wraps or branding for me, i just get from imrbatteries.com my stock, even when re-wraps like AWT and MXJO provide every battery on a decent cage or plastic container, contrary when you got just one battery like LG's or Samsung to put the example, you got it in paper box, i guess that justifies the price tag when you compare the price of a LG HG2 over a MXJO, the great thing, if you get 2 batteries from imrbatteries.com , they will provide a plastic container for both, lol

The HG2 is the worst of the 15-20A 3000mah cells. The 30Q and VTC6 both outperform it in runtime and cyclelife.
At least to my subjective observations.

The 25R is a decent cell, although I highly prefer the Sony VTC5A or Sanyo UR18650NSX. Same thing as with the 3000mah cells. More runtime, better cyclelife.

well, i have to say that i have bassed my purchases on mooch reviews, seems like for him and some charts LG's are decent and well rated 3000am 20A batteries, i have 20 LG's and 2 Samsung's both brands have served me well all time, also have a purple effest, 2100mah that use on my CM tab 521 mini for building and dry fire, old useful battery,

This is not the genuine rewrapping of Murata, it is a "trick" the Chinese did, in order to avoid problems with Murata. As far as I heard from a reliable source (but didn´t see it in my own eyes) some Chinese retailers took the genuine shrink away, washed all signs from the bare cell and rewrapped it again.
I can´t say for sure those are genuine VTC6. Nkon is a reliable source, maybe someone can ask them...

Don't get me wrong. Both the HG2 and 25R are decent cells. But there are even better options.
