Hey guys, new to ECF. I've been vaping for a little over half a year now, and am still fairly inexperienced. I don't understand all the terminology very well, nor do I understand all the different mods/styles you can use. Let me explain. My current battery is a Wismec 75w (with the temp control). I just upgraded from an Apsire tank to a Uwell Crown sub ohm tank. I have a few questions here....so it came with a .25 dual coil. Im not exactly sure how to use dual coils, the guy at the shop just told me to put it between 50-70 watts and it'll be fine, any lower than that it will burn out the coil quicker. So, I went to fire it up after priming the coil, and I wasn't getting much vapor. It fires a bit better using the Bypass or NI mode on the Wismec, but I'm fairly certain that the .25 that came w/ it is not a NI coil. I've also been getting weird messages on the Wismec, and I'm not sure what it means. For example; Ive seen "New Coil Right, Same Coil Left". And also once in a while, it just tweaks out and goes back to the last setting I had it on. Am I doing something wrong? I appreciate anyone taking the time to read this and help me out.

Hello and welcome to the forum @thsea401. Glad to have you here!:)

If you are not sure how to use all the features of the Wismec 75 watt go out to youtube and view a few different reviews.

The crown 0.25Ω coil is a stainless steel coil. If your mod does not have an option for running stainless steel in "temperature control mode" you need to be running it in "power mode". Three clicks (on many mods) will get you into the menu where you can change your settings.

"New Coil Right, Same Coil Left" indicates you are in "temperature control" mode.

Priming a Coil

When you are using a new coil for the first time, the wicks have to be primed well with juice. If they are not primed well the cotton will burn. Once the cotton is burned the harsh/burnt taste doesn't go away.

To prime the coil, drop 5-8 drops (sometimes less/more depending on the size of the coil head) of juice right inside the coil, another drop of juice in all the holes on the side of the coil. Put the coil in the base.
  • If Bottom Filling - Fill the tank and then screw the base back onto the tank.
  • If Top Filling (some of the newer tanks are top filled) - Screw the tank on the base and then top fill it.
Once you put the tank on the battery give it several unpowered primer puffs. This will make sure the wick is fully saturated.

Rule of Thumb

The rule of thumb for EVERY vape device you'll ever own is the same (when running in power/wattage mode). Start low power (wattage or voltage), take a draw, bump it up and repeat. If it starts to taste funny, gets too hot or tastes burnt, back it down. Different flavors will have different sweet spots so you just have to experiment.

1: running a coil too low will not burn it out; running it too high, can.
2: if you weren't getting much vapour, didn't you increase the wattage?

3:
"New Coil Right" means click the 'right' or '+' button to tell the mod that you have changed the coil.
"Same Coil Left" means click the 'left' or '-' button to tell the mod that you have not changed the coil.
The message comes up because the mod sees a difference in ohms.

4:
If you are in temperature mode, and the mod decides that the coil you are using is not a temperature mode coil, it kicks out of temperature mode and into wattage mode; I don't have a wismec, but that's what my evic vtc does and a lot of other mods I've heard does that.

You will learn faster if you get used to paying attention to the numbers on the screen.
Keep an eye on wattage and ohms. for example, if you put a nickel coil in there and fire the mod while watching the screen you will see the ohms rise dramatically, like double in a few seconds

Thank you for the replies so far. I appreciate you guys taking the time to read through my post. I do have one more question at the moment. My Wismec has been giving me the "Weak Battery" message for quite some time now. Whether its 3/4 charged, 1/2 charged, and so on. I just bought a new battery for it as well, "Imren 3500MAH". For some reason, I am still getting this message with the new battery. (and lately when it happens, I will hit the fire button but little to no vapor comes out, and I dont hear the coil burning/firing). Is it the Wismec itself causing it to give out a weak battery, or what could be the case? I tried googling the error message but most of the articles that come up are related to the mod itself, but not the error code.

Not a good battery/cell for high wattage vaping. It's only a 10A CDR cell.
More About Batteries/Cells

There are only a few battery manufacturers in the world who make their own "cells", including LG, Samsung, Sony, Panasonic & Sanyo.

All the other brands on the market buy the second and third tier cells from those manufacturers and re-wrap them under their own brand. These are "second and/or third tier cells" which did not meet the higher standards of the original manufacturer. So, in order to compete with the original manufacturers' batteries (first tier), these other companies feel obligated to publish specifications which are inflated to make them appear superior to those of the original manufacturer.
______

For a regulated mod, in power (i.e. wattage/voltage mode), you calculate the max current draw using the formula below.
If you stay around 60 watts (or lower) a 20A CDR cell will work well. Here are some options for 20A cells (in descending mAh):
  • LG HG2 3000 mAh 20A CDR
  • Samsung 30Q 3000 mAh 20A CDR
  • Sony VTC5 2600 mAh 20A CDR
  • LG HE2 or HE4 2500 mAh 20A CDR
  • Samsung 25r 2500 mAh 20A CDR
But if you are going to be running higher wattage you will need to get a true 30A cell (LG HB2/HB4/HB6).

You could consider the Sony VTC4 (a 20A cell that can be pushed to 30A), but recognize that you will probably need to replace that cell more often due to the stress placed on this 20A cell at higher wattage.

Batteries - Where to Buy

Only buy batteries from a reputable supplier (not ebay or Amazon) as there are many counterfeit batteries being sold. Here are several reputable battery suppliers in the US.

So after looking on a few of the websites you recommended, I decided to purchase a new battery, the Sony VTC5. After receiving my order, I charged it and started vaping. Again, around half battery life, the device displayed the message "Weak battery" upon pressing the fire button. I got it off the website "Liion Wholesale" so I'm certain it isn't the battery. Is it possible the mod is malfunctioning? By the way, I appreciate you heading me in the right direction with the information, it was very detailed and precise.
