Greetings Zurd, once you've seen it, do you mind posting to say whether it was favourable or unfavourable to e-cigs? I don't speak French, but am curious to know how the report portrays e-cigs.

Have you seen the Winnipeg Free Press article (there's a link in one of the ECF Canada forum threads)? It was pretty sympathetic to vaping, which was cool to see.

Regards
Glenn

An aunt actually called me last night to tell me this had aired. It's a very positive segment. They've got a pulmonologist and a cardiologist (as well as a 'tobaccologist,' which is a fancy French word for 'smoking cessation specialist) recommending vaping, on camera, on the record, and to their patients. The one naysayer seemed most concerned with the risk of people starting to vape in public, which...jeez.

Just watched it, it was so positive, I'm impressed, that's the first time they portray ecig as something very beneficial, the tides are changing. It was 11 minutes long, here's what's the important thing that was said.

- ecig is illegal in Canada because of Health Canada which, of course, declined all comments in this small documentary.

- the WHO estimates that 6 millions people die every year because of smoking. 1 out of 2 smokers will die because of it.

- a quebec woman health expert says that tobacco as we know it, will not exist anymore, the ecig is the smoke of the future

- another quebec health expert says that the biggest danger from smoking is combustion which doesn't exist in ecig. He also says that PG is not dangerous, it's been widely tested and it is widely used in a lot of products in pharmacy already. This health expert is already suggesting ecig to patients. People associate nicotine with cancer but that is false he says.

- again, another health expert recommend the ecig, not just suggesting it, he doesn't care if it's illegal or not, he is sure that the ecig is less dangerous than smoking, he says ecig doesn't have much impact on the health, especially for the heart. The effect is minimal.

- in a recent study, it was demonstrated that smokers have more chance to stop smoking with ecig than with the nicoderm patch

- in another 2013 study, it was demonstrated that some ecigs have cancerigen products in it, however they were 450 times less present than in a traditional smoke and, like a health expert said, they come from china where they do not have much standard

If you ask Health Canada, they will tell you its illegal because there isn't any regulation of it.

Because there's no regulation it's illegal? It's suppose to be the other way around, it's illegal because there is a regulation on it. Else, since there's no regulation on eating mousepad, it's illegal?! :)

Truth is Health Canada is just pressuring us but they cannot do anything, see this link for the official status:

Ok it's more complicated then that. Nicotine is controlled. Because you can use the devices to use nicotine, as far as health Canada is concerned, it's a medical device, so it's controlled as well. They could look the other way until legislation is in place, but either due to lack to revenues like tobacco or pressure from anti-smoking groups, they are starting to act. It's totally a stupid move on their part for many reasons, but they really don't care.

Nicotine is a legal recreational drug with prescribed maximum dosage (draw) that has to be labeled accordingly. Nothing more, nothing less. Labeling is the biggest point that can be made in most cases.

Thanks for the link. It was even spoken in a French that I could understand. It was very informative. The pulmonary doctor from U of McGill was suggesting it to long term suffering smokers as an alternative. Short of prescribing it of course. I'm sure HC would come down on him BIGTIME if he were to prescribe it. Again, many were saying if our E-liquids were coming from a North American source, we could regulate it more for unknown chemicals, but the VG/PG/Nic does not pose any cancer threats.

Nice article. Thanks for the link! I hope they translate this into an English version.
Funny Health Canada refused to answer questions.
