Hello to everyone!
I am on holidays
I collect energy and have new ideas
Tomorrow at the workplace!

Welcome Back Jim and I do hope you had a great Vacation, you certainly deserve one my Friend. Just don't hit it too hard when you go back and end up burning yourself out okay. Slow and steady :D

Sincerely;
Nate

about to order my DID but i have a question first, would the brass contact make a significant difference in vape quality? should i worry about the whole long term metal toxicity thing? thank you

I'm with Uma on this one. I converted all my DIDs to full SS. I measured both setups and the difference was ~0.05Ω which at ultra LR was a couple watts. For me running ~0.8Ω I couldn't tell the difference. I do however really appreciate the easier maintenance of SS and the setup is much easier for me.

I am a veteran DIDer, I did buy the ss upgrades for all my DIDs. I love the SS nuts and screws. I still use the brass pole running up the tank. This was part laziness because I didn't want to tear my DIDs down all the way. I think I have only torn down my DID'S twice in the last year and that was because I broke the glass tanks.

I just purchased the did.
however, for some reason, mostly my fault I am assuming, it does not vape so well. The vapor is not very great, and there is a very harsh feeling on my throat/lungs. (When I get the coils to all heat up evenly)
When I try building the coil, part of the coil will heat up and then the wire will snap.. Any ideas why the wire is snapping?

Oh the memories of setting up my DIDs in the beginning. OK the harshness is from a short. Not sure what you are using for a wick so I will assume ss mesh. I lightly oxidize my mesh for a few seconds in a blue flame. Then roll my wick. I then wrap my coil directly on the wick out of the Atty. Once the coil is on an looking pretty I run the wick with installed coil back through the blue flame......yes the coil will glow red. Now into the DID it goes. I tighten the negative to the negative screw and then tighten the positive wire to the top. I don't pull on the wick when tightening.
When it looks great I pop it on a device with a weak battery or a vv mod turned way down and fire her up. Mess with the coil below the red one if you don't have an even glow. Continue to work down until it is perfect. Nice her up and enjoy.
PS. I find ribbon wire is very forgiving and easier to set up. SS rope with a tiny piece of oxidized mesh works great as well.

Now it takes me no time to make a wick and coil.

+1 ^^^^^ good advice there. If you're popping coils, you're shorting. What gauge wire are you using? Thinner wire like 32awg or 34awg will pop easier than 30 or 28 and ribbon as previously stated is the most forgiving for me.

If you posts a quick pic of your setup it's easier to diagnose.

That's exactly how I do mine Overall! GMTA.
But I still do the quenching and seasoning too. Old habits die hard. But, the few times I've tried not quenching, it was too springy to work with or to keep it's shape, and the few times I didn't season, I'd hit a dry wick. But, otherwise, exactly the same!
Oh, and for those who do it this way but still get that dreaded top hot spot? Reverse your order... tie the positive post first, and then tie down the negative. (a newbie to RBA's ::: pat self on back:::: taught me that trick just the other day). :)

I was bored and checking out MMV wondering if I should finally by the D16, and THE HYBRID WAS UP. Without even thinking, I snagged a satin 14500. YES YES YES.

Thats awesome I have the original temon and d16.

Hey Jim will you be making a part that can convert the original to a Hybrid? I really hope so please please please :)

Sweet!!!!
The description on the page is esoterically beautiful.. but it leaves out some of the tangible points I'm interested in.
Is it a bottom switch? (I know, that's a doh, but I'm forgetful, so it's such a big doh when I'm tossing comparisons).
Is the switch locakable?
Is there a layaway plan? :D
Can we start a tab? :D

yes, yes, don't know, maybe

I love that the hybrid connector gets rid of the 510 and that the switch (yes bottom/lockable ;)) uses a simple screw to hold it in instead of the little clip that vexes me (I've gotten better with it but at least half dozen times have been observed by my kids on hands and knees looking for it on the kitchen floor with a flashlight....). They refer to those situations as "vocabulary lessons"
