I can't give mine a footrub right now... apparently, it can cause problems during pregnancy? ( i say hogwash... how the hell do you walk then?) Besides that, her feet are too ticklish...

As best as I have ever figured out this is one of those myths that doesn't have any scientific support. Primarily, it seems to have started due to reflexology pressure points (which, hilariously, actually are in the ankles behind the bony medial malleolus) corresponding to sex organs and bladder and a belief that application of these pressure points would stimulate contractions. Which I've never found any actual literature evidence of. There is probably more risk from breast massage which has proven effects of increasing hormone production and stimulating uterine contractions. It is even a recognized way of stimulating post-term labor and has documented evidence of hormone increasing stimulating galactorhea.

That being said, risk of blood clots and moving them around from massage is a legitimate concern. And first trimester risks of, well everything, is rather evident.

*insert standard I am not that kind of doctor disclaimer here....
