I don't even talk to them about diet anymore.....their training is sooooo very limited in the nutrition aspect..and what they do get is from big pet food companies....thus what they sell in their practice.
The only thing that he is religiously eating is treats...and ONLY the one's that I make. He won't even touch animal crackers or nilla wafers anymore. The only "prescription" crap that I give him now is the canned and only from Royal Canin cause he will eat it from time to time......but he gets it via syringe if he refuses everything else (such as my homemade meatloaf, kidney friendly stew, etc). He's at a stage right now where he feels bad....kinda like us having the flu. So he doesn't want to eat....have a few tricks that I'm trying right now to see if they will help with his blood levels and a few more options before I throw in the towel.
Now with that said, please don't think me heartless to how he feels....I have a rule of 3....if he has 3 really bad days in a row, that is when it will be time. We have not hit that yet....He will have 2 days in a row that are bad, but on day 3 he's good again and for longer than he is on the bad streak. But the food thing is driving me crazy. What he will eat today, may not be what he will eat tomorrow...and what he snubbed last week, may be what he WILL eat today

Very fickle.
