Hey there everybody. New to ecigs. Went from a gas station special to an eVod/kanger/ego setup in 24 hours, less than a week later I have a new Reo mini 2.1.
I'm getting the hang of it, though I'm still feeling like I got better vape and flavor from the starter kit. Not as much volume or "smoothness" from the Reo...yet. I picked up a Cisco 1.5 atomizer, and everything tastes hot and burnt...more reading indicates I was supposed to blow out the primer...this could be the cause. Also got some Boge 2.0s, no nasty flavor, but still not the vape and flavor I was getting from the clearo.
Any guesses as to why this might be? Tips and tricks?
That said, trial and error, it's getting way better.

Oh, and should there be an open, almost sizzling sound around the carto while I'm drawing? It's quite pronounced. Much more than the "sizzle" when hitting the button when not drawing. Many thanks!!!

Anyway, here is the obligatory pic:

Congrats. Nice lookin mod. Hang in there, there is a learning curve to squonking - especially with cartos. I never used a factory atty so I can't help with that.

When I used cartos they had a sizzle sound too. You also may have flooded it.

What you can do is screw a new carto on the mod (keep the old one for another time when you have mastered this technique) Now put the mod up to your mouth and draw on the drip tip while pressing the bottle. Once you feel a little gurgle, stop. Now you are good to take some hits. This is called blind squonking"

When you notice it getting dry, you can repeat the "blind squonk" method.

Keep us posted and prepare yourself for the next game changer - the RM2 rba :)

I'm pretty sure the primer is just a mix of pg/VG in the Cisco atomizers. Supposedly they take a few days to be "broken in." I do use stock atomizers when I am too lazy to build my RDA once the coil is spent. They are not as good as the vape I get from the RM2, but they are still better than clearos. A hot and burnt flavor seems like it may be an issue with the atomizer not getting enough liquid. You should definitely give your Cisco another try. On the Avid Vaper site, they give instructions to get the best results out of a Cisco spec atty.

I would encourage you to start reading about RDAs. When I use stock attys, I still get a good vape, but it is noting compared to what I get from my Cyclone or RM2. RDAs are by far one of the simplest builds when you first start. Many find wrapping microcoils easier than wrapping a regular one.

Congratz on becoming a Reonaut so soon in your vaping journey!

I used atomizers for a long time. Still have a couple going.

Use the blind squonk. Draw without firing and squonk just a little. When you first hear the gurgle then stop squonking.

With a full bottle it does not take much to get the atty juiced.

Dry, and burned hits mean that you are not getting the atomizer juiced good. There is a learning curve. Too much juice and it floods and you get almost no vapor or flavor.

Once you know the different results of the amount of juice you can fix it.

Also try to draw easy and slow. Not to hard or too fast. That is very important with a atomizer or cartomizer.

The sizzle is pronounced on some atomizers and cartomizers. Don't worry about that. Just get the juice part right!

After using a clearo you would probably be better satisfied with a RM2. The vapor and flavor is just the best.

I've never used a carto on a reo but i have used them before and the key to those when i used them was priming them.....not sure if this is needed with a bottom feeder but i would prime it first but putting liquid in from the top to soak the wick......then throw it in a tank and let it do its thing.......so instead of throwing a tank on you could try priming the carto and then start hitting it, then all you gotta do is squaonk to re wet the wick as you vape the liquid away......

someone correct me if I'm wrong by priming a carto when using on a bottom feeder

Damnit...now I'm shipping for rebuilding supplies.
OK, so which wire do I want to start with? 30?

Also, in one of those amazing building videos, there was a screw-in holder/tester...where would I get one of those?

And the "needles" that we're being used to wrap around, where does one get those?

Is there a full "this is absolutely everything you need to get started" kit?

Is there a reason cotton or the other wicks (I saw on Reos website) is preferred?

Why can't I just enjoy a hobby for a week or two before going off the deep end?

I'd suggest 28 and 30 ga wire. You can buy small quantities on REOsmods. Temco industrial is where I order large quantities from.

Sterile rolled cotton from CVS (box in the bandage section)

Needles come from wizard labs 16 ga is great or a drill bit / nail / paper clip that is approximately 1.4. - 1.6 mm.

Rock on :)

Meters : Cartomizer and Atomizer Ohm Meter Use ECF5 for 5% off your purchase. Also a great place to buy supplies! Owner is a Reonaut and stocks everything needed for our REO's!
