Hello all and I apologize for the seemingly huge lack of knowledge. I only picked up my first e-cig just yesterday so I'm as green as they get. I've been thinking of going electronic for a while now and have visited a couple of local vape shops but have been turned off by the type of equipment that was offered. I have been a smoker for over 40 years and pretty stuck on using something that resembles an analog cig. All that I've found locally are the disposables at the convenience stores so I bought an njoy King as it was the closest to the Marlboro Lights that I'm use to. So far I'm impressed with the amount of vapor and the flavor but everything I've read says that I will hate the cost and the short life span of the batteries.

After reading a bunch of threads here, I'm temped to try the G6 unless someone has a better suggestion. Thanks in advance and I look forward to learning a lot here.

"I have been a smoker for over 40 years and pretty stuck on using something that resembles an analog cig. "

LOL, I wonder what percentage of us have said that at the start! Not making fun... I started the same way, and still use my "cigalikes" occasionally even though I've upgraded to better hardware.

There is a sub-forum for kr808d-1 (the batteries that are more or less cigarette sized) systems... KR808D-1

I started with a kr808 system but I don't think I'd recommend what I bought, so you might want to do some reading over there.

If vaping sticks for you as a means of quitting cigs, you'll probably find yourself wanting something more, somewhere down the road. But I wouldn't worry about that. Buy what suits you now. None of this stuff is really cost-prohibitive compared to smoking.

btw, I would guess the Halo G6 is a good product. But, it's not a "regulated voltage" battery. Meaning that it will be very strong when it's first charged, but the life of it will decline rapidly as it discharges. Some systems are regulated, and stay at a constant voltage throughout the life of the charge. I think the Smokeless Image Volt has this feature. You might want to consider that in your decision... to me it's kind of a bummer to start out with a fresh battery, only to have it "fade" within half an hour or so.

But, the regulated batteries will probably not last as long as the un-regulated (even though they'll become weak, they'll keep producing some power for a longer period of time.)

Just one more piece of information, to make sure you're thoroughly confused...

Hi Steve,

I smoked for over 30 years too; I think that most of us go for the 'cig-a-like' look and tobacco flavours at the start. I even still use a 'cig-a-like' for when I'm out and about, as I can shove it in my pocket and forget it's there.

You will probably move further away from cigarettes as time passes. The larger devices and batteries are better for a number of reasons: batts last longer, most have some sort of variable voltage/wattage control (this is used to adjust the power to the vapourising coil), and they don't look like cigarettes (I like that fact now too). At first everyone seems to want to find an e-liquid that tastes like a cigarette (they are out there) but these liquids are quite hard to find, and over the next few months your sense of taste will return to you and change. So what you like right now, you may not like in 3 months!!

The MVP2 seems to be highly thought of at the moment. People say that its a good bang for your buck. Watch lots of youtube review videos.

Well done for making the change; it's all good news from now on.

I also think the EGO is a better suggestion. I know all to well about wanting something you are used to, but I got to where I'd have to carry six batteries with me every day. Drop them once on a hard surface, they are done! Then you normally do good to get 3 hours of use out of them.
The other problem is the better ones, Halo, Volt and Vaper4life are all 808 threaded and as you grow, which you will, all the better devices are 510 threaded. Sure you can get adapters, but buy stock in them because they don't last long!
IF the cig-alike is really the way you want to go, here's the best suggestion I can give you, buy from one of the vendors listed above, order some carto's in a flavor you think you will like, then order a couple boxes of empty cartomizers as well. Most towns have at least one or two vape shops that you can try the juice's in. Find one of these and go see what juices they have that you like and get some of that.
It's not hard to fill cartomizers, there are tons of how to's on youtube so I wont even get into that, and since you are getting juice from a local vendor you can have it mixed as you need it. Need a little higher nic, they can mix it up, want to start dropping down, they can mix it up right there and you don't have to worry about an online shop being out of it, having to wait on the mail man and so on!
Like I say, I recommend EGO's as much as I can to new vapors because it's a decent trade off, still fairly small, decent run time and leaves room to grow to other toppers later on.
Good luck!

Halo is an excellent choice, they have very good hardware and juice. I have tried quitting cigarettes for the last 3 years with an ecig. I have bought tons of juice, tons of hardware and it just never worked...UNTIL NOW. I am 45 days smoke free with Halo's Tritan. I also always wanted the cig look alike and the G6's worked fine but, it's a pain to have to fill the cartomizers or mini tanks and charge batteries all the time. So far the Tritan is the most hassle free easy thing I have used. The juice taste the same each and every time I take a puff and the batteries last a long time. I was never a menthol smoker, however Halo's Mystic menthol juice is the only one I have found in the last 3 years that I like each and every day and never get tired of. I know most people want to have several juices that they change out through the day but I definately do not. I want one flavor that I like, just like my cigarettes, I smoked the same brand for 28 years. Also I just bought my mom the Tritan kit last week (she is a 40 plus year smoker) and she has gone from 1.5 packs a day to less than 1/2 a pack of cigs. I'm so proud of her and the more she uses her Tritan the more she stays away from her cigs. Anyhow hope this helps and I wish you the best of luck. I promise the ease of use and consistancy will become way more important than the ecig looking like a real cig.

Looked over the Joytech e-roll today at a local shop and have to say that I was pretty impressed. Tank system all be it small but extremely discrete and fulfills the need to feel like I'm smoking an analog. Not cheap but quality usually costs a bit more.

Reviews I've seen seem very positive but would welcome any feed back from anyone that has used one. The ego is just a bit big for my daily routine but I'm pretty sure that I'll end up with one for home use.

I say go for it, Steve!:) You've done your research and decided what you like, and that's what is important. I've seen lots of very positive comments from e-roll users.

The important thing, if you are anything like me, is to do this while you want to do it. The day I finally decided to try vaping, I dashed out to a local store and paid a little more than I should have, but came right home and jumped in. I haven't smoked since that day.

I knew if I kept waiting and dithering around, I might lose my momentum.

First off, congratulations on your decision to try ecigs! I think you'll be amazed at how relatively painless quitting is with these little miracles. :)

On to your question:

Looked over the Joytech e-roll today at a local shop and have to say that I was pretty impressed. Tank system all be it small but extremely discrete and fulfills the need to feel like I'm smoking an analog. Not cheap but quality usually costs a bit more.

Reviews I've seen seem very positive but would welcome any feed back from anyone that has used one. The ego is just a bit big for my daily routine but I'm pretty sure that I'll end up with one for home use.

I was a 30 year, pack a day Camel smoker. Like you, I started with disposables to see what it was like, and decided to get a kit. After lots of reading reviews and seeing what everyone was using, I still just couldn't wrap my head around using even an ego style battery--they were all too different from cigs, and I wasn't ready yet to completely cut the cord on the psychological aspect of smoking (the size, shape, and feel of the cigarette).

I decided on the eRoll, and for me, it was magic--one day I was smoking, and the next I wasn't. It was such an easy transition that I was completely caught off guard.

I used my eRoll exclusively for 2 months before I moved on to a variable voltage ego style, and then a mechanical hybrid, and now a variable wattage device. Never thought I would ever want something that didn't look like a cigarette, but it happens.

I still use it once in a while, and still enjoy it. I think if you've already seen and tried the eRoll and liked it, it will be a good choice for you.

Everyone is different, and once you've tried it for a while you may decide to move on. But I enthusiastically recommend it if a cig-a-like is what you're after.

If you do get one, make sure the kit comes with an extra cone (or buy one) so that you have 2 fully working units. Without that, it's like having a hand tied behind your back.

Congrats again, and have fun!

A lot of good advice here!! I truly enjoyed reading it!!!

It's hard for us to answer this question and here is why: All of us seem to like different thinks from our smoking and then vaping experiences. Take me and my wife for instance. I like blowing out the smoke. She likes good flavor. Some people like the throat hit.

Also the way many smoke is different. Some just pull into the mouth. Some pull straight to the lungs. Some do both.

That said, it's hard for me to answer what is best for you. We've all been through the trial and error period and can give you our experiences but that only will tell you what we like. Just because I like something doesn't mean you will.

What I can tell you is there tends to be a progression. First cigalikes ( some skip this stage but for some, like you, the size of the device is important ). Next Ego battery and clearomizer (CE4, Vivi Nova, Ect. ) Third Variable Volt Batteries. Fourth Mods ( Mechanical or electronic adding in Variable Watt Devices. Lastly seems to be the top....Rebuildable atomizers.

For you, I would suggest the next step. An Ego Starter Kit and an E Liquid of your flavor choice. If you smoked a pack a day, 18mg of Nicotene is a good place to start. Some find that level to be to much so they drop to 12mg. Others find it not enough and raise to 24mg.

All said, Vaping is like picking your brand of cigarettes. It all depends on what you like and just because my friend loves Newports doesn't mean I will. Take care Steve and good luck!! You're on the right track!!

A brief update........Picked up an e-roll today with an extra cone, tanks and atty's as I'm headed out of town for a week and didn't want to get caught short. I decided to go with an unflavored 9mg nic juice as when I tried a 12mg and 18mg in the store, it just felt too high but after a few hours of use, I'm questioning my decision and think I should have gone higher to start. I seem to need to take more hits than a normal cig would be to get the satisfaction and I also feel like the throat hit is a bit weak so I find myself vaping for longer periods of time than normal.

Should I pick up a small bottle of 12mg to see if it makes any difference or jump to 18mg? Would like to be able to get the satisfaction from 5-6 hits instead of 15-20. Other than that, I love the e-roll so far. The pcc seems to take a long time to charge but that may be due to being new.
