New KangerTech dual coil head question

Hey guys,

So I love the Aerotank Mega from Kanger but I have a problem with the dual coil heads. Here's a pic in case you aren't sure what I'm talking about:

How on earth do I take the housing off so I can clean the coils inside? Please don't tell me this is all a very specific design choice so you can't clean your coils and have to buy new ones  that would be scumbad mode from Kanger :glare:

I rinse in water. Then I dry burn it by firing it for about five seconds, wait five seconds and repeat til it stops smoking all the while blowing through the hole in the mega or mini base. I then rinse it again to get rid of any ash and pulse it a few times to get rid of any excess water. It only takes about five minutes and works great. No disassembly required. I've done my current coil four times and it's like new.

Does the top not pull off like the older heads? Curious now. I have a one sitting on my counter that I have been procrastinating(is that correct?) with. I will have to take it to work tomorrow and see if I can't get it apart.

Don't believe it does. Been trying to. Doesn't wiggle apart like the old ones did..

Of course I was messing around with the second one that came with the aerotank and possibly ruined it...which sucks cuz the first one that came already installed never worked right from day 1...rookie move

EDIT: well I now can see why the first one never worked right: 3 of the 4 metal coils that come up and make contact with the tiny metal piece that Im assuming touches the battery were buried beneath the small cylindrical white o-ring. duh. I wondered why my plumes were tiny compared to the mushroom clouds people were blowing in videos..

Its possible to remove it with some needle nose pliers or similar, though its not easy to get it back in. This is most likely a move by Kanger to get us to buy new ones instead of rebuilding.

Yep, that's what I figured..

And uh, while we're on the subject, any way to get the bottom part of the aerotank, the dial part, apart for cleaning?

I also think this is a move to try and stop rebuilding. I've got seven of these (two that came with my Protank3 plus five that I bought not realising they'd been changed). I think this will rebound on Kanger - I like my Protank 3 but won't buy any more of these "upgraded" (!) heads at any cost. I've bought some of the older dual coil heads (which I rebuild with a single, oval, coil) as there are still plenty around. If/ when the supply of these dries up (being replaced by the new version) there are plenty of cheap clones around and, although the coils may not be as good, I'm rebuilding them anyway so it doesn't matter (it just means that Kanger lose out on the sale).

My coil heads never seem to come back to life after I take the bottom pin and grommet out.

Are they more delicate or something? The grommets seem really finicky. Does putting them back in screw up the parts inside?

Since vaping with a minipro3 I've been going through a five pack of heads each week. Was keen to try rebuilding them but with the upgraded design all I can really do is maintain them.

Cheers
