So we had a Vape Meet down Lexington way. A woman named Ellen Hahn went on a warpath trying to shut it down, but Fazed and ecig Advanced* did an excellent job of damage control and the Best Western refused to be pressured into changing their policy and to disallow vaping inside.

One hundred twenty people signed the roster. Several refused to sign claiming they were concerned about their privacy, and some didn't sign because they were with someone else who'd already signed in. The youngest person to sign was 18, the oldest was 68. There were 38 females and 82 males sign the roster, but I personally saw several instances of only husband/wife boyfriend/girlfriend pairs in which only the man signed. Twenty five of the signers were non-vapers, 19 of them smokers there to learn about vaping and looking to quit. (My wife is a non-vaper who is considering taking up 0 nic vaping, but she quit smoking three years ago so she's one of the six non-vaping non-smokers on the roster). Of the people who "chose to disclose" how much they smoked, 365,475 cigarettes had been avoided by the attendees who'd taken up vaping.

It was a small room when you look at pictures from VapeFest and VapeCon, and even the Atlanta meet earlier this year, but it was never empty and at times was down-right crowded. There were 11 vendors in attendance and all of them were "mighty fine" people. Vapors Radio was there broadcasting live from open to close with Redneck Disciple pulling DJ duty the whole time. nerak brought something like 27 of her Reos (almost half her collection) and NorthofAtlanta drove up from Canton, GA (though I don't know if 6 hours was the farthest anyone traveled or not).

On a personal note, the wife brought a colleague and friend of hers (same person) who's interested in vaping to help her quit smoking. She had me take her around to sample juices and advise her on a couple of purchases (I don't have eGo-style batteries and she wanted simple, blingy and "feminine"). She ended up winning a white Provari, decided it was too complicated and gave it to me

It was a great time, everyone seemed to enjoy it, and EVERYONE (that I talked to anyway) is looking forward to doing it again next year

* ecig Advanced is an advocacy group in Lexington with the aim of supporting vaping and helping smokers become non-smokers though the use of e-cigarettes/personal vaporizers. They fund their efforts through online sales and specifically label themselves as a "for profit business." This makes them vendor and since I can't find out if they're registered or their blog is approved, I am unable to provide a link to their website per ECF rules.

Thanx for the write up Pwyll. I've never been to a meetup either Dude. There was a big one in Tampa a while back but I couldn't handle the trip at the time. When you get a chance to put it through it's paces let us know how that Vari compares to the Vmax. I'll prolly never own one but I've been curious. I don't see how anything could possibly be much better than Max.

This was my first time meeting other vapers in any way (other than posting online) and I heartily recommend it

As far as the Provari vs. VMax thing, the Provari is freakin' heavy. The build quality is noticeably better, but I would have been astonished if it wasn't. As much as people talk about how surprised they are at the build quality of the VMax though, it seemed to shine even more next to the Provi--the VMax is the lesser of the two, but definitely comparable.

The Provari also holds its programming--set the voltage at 3.7 and even with the battery out for half an hour it was still at 3.7 when powered up. Very nice convenience, but it's not really that difficult to reset your voltage when you change batteries. Haven't had the 'Vari long enough to compare battery life.

So far the major differences I've seen are that the Provari is doing wonderfully with my genesis mini wrapped at around 1.6 ohms anywhere between 3.3 to 3.7 volts (haven't tried it higher)--the VMax couldn't handle it, even at 3.0 volts the VMax was just way to "strong" on it. At some point I'll get some higher resistance cartos than I have to run a "full comparison," but for now I'll just plan on eventually breaking out a 2 ohm carto (that does work fine for me on the VMax) to be able to do some direct head-to-head stuff.

At this point, though, I only seem to be supporting my original hypothesis--people who find the Provari to be the "Rolls Royce" of PV's will be disappointed in the VMax and people that find the VMax to work for them will likely find the Provari's performance disappointing. There are already a lot of people who don't fit that stereotype so it is a crass generalization, but with all the inevitable comparisons between the two, and for all the similarities in design, they are two vastly difference pieces of equipment.

The bottom line, after a day with the 'Vari, is:

Is the Provari worth the relatively high price tag? If it's what you want, yes. It excels at some things the VMax just cannot do, and that is handle subtlety and finesse.
Is the VMax worth its price tag? I thought so before, but in (an admittedly small so far) direct comparison to the Provari it seems to be undervalued. And if you just want raw power, the VMax excels at some things the Provi just cannot do.

I don't mind setting the Vmax up after a battery change. It doesn't happen all that often anyway. Don't think I'd like heavier either. I've been extremely happy with the Vmax with the pwm and it works great with 3.0 cartos. I just don't get it off the 3.0 volts with the resurectors in the tanks but the production and flavor are beyond anything I've ever used. I drive a Jeep and have no desire to own a Rolls. The main thing I like is being able to keep the voltage up in spite of the battery charge, even if I have to adjust it up once in a while.

Well, the Provari seems to have a little higher grade electronics in it (as I would suspect/hope) as I didn't notice any voltage drop at all, even running 3.7 volts off a battery charged to 3.1 volts (ah, the beauty of high-drain batteries). And I was frankly surprised at how heavy the VMax was, so picking up a Provari for the first time was an actual shock.

But I think your Jeep/Rolls analogy is perfect. I don't think anyone who's compleatly happy with a VMax would really get anything out of the Provari--some people are Jeep people and they won't settle for anything less, and for them a Rolls is "less." And I don't think anyone who thinks the Provari is "perfect" will like a VMax much--some people are "precision and prestige" people and won't sacrifice either for "mere practicality." Personally I wouldn't say either one is better than the other, I think they have two different audiences--though there's plenty of room for "crossover" or "sharing" or whatever, just as some people might like to go mudding and take a limo to the opera.

I can get by with unregulated 3.7 and/or stacked LiFEPO's, though--so both are luxuries to me ;)
