A little intro on myself. As the title states, I'm new to this whole other world of vaping that until about a week or so ago, I didn't even know existed; yeah, that new. Quite frankly, I'm lost and overwhelmed. I want to find a smoking replacement to help me quit but I didn't expect to or really want to stumble upon a potential new hobby.

I'm 33 and have been smoking on and off (mostly on) since about 15. I know I need to quit and with a young daughter, another on the way, and a wife that quit 5 years ago, I am constantly reminded of this.

So I was hanging out with a buddy of mine and mentioned this thing called electronic cigarettes to him and that I was possibly considering trying it to quit smoking (for the thousandth time or so). He looked at me, said "hold on", and went into his bag and pulled out a v2 kit. Turns out his fiance had bought them the couples kit to try and get him to quit (he smokes 4 p.a.d.!). I tried his and actually liked it.

So, this past weekend while we were out at the mall I stopped by a tobacco shop where I used to get pipe tobacco for my grandfather just to see if they had any. They had a Cig2o disposable so I bought it. They had some sort of cheap looking kit (think it was a 510 joye knockoff type) but he wanted $90 for it. I didn't like the idea that it was three piece, seemed like a hassle to start; and I didn't like the price too much. I figured I'd do some research on the interwebs and see what the online world thought of this whole thing.

For the past 3 or 4 days I have read so much that I feel like I've crammed for a college final. I'm getting a little overwhelmed to be honest (think I've already mentioned that lol). I started by looking into the v2 brand, which led me to reviews that mentioned others like Bloog, v4l, smoov, pure, blu, and on and on. Eventually I found this site and one other that I could read/watch actual reviews on the products and see what came recommended and what I should stay away from.

In the interim of all this research, naturally, my cig2o ran out so I was faced with finding another disposable or buying more "analogues". I bought a disposable from 7-11 and have just totally suffered with it for the past day and a half. Can't recall the name but it sucked so bad I just threw it out and bought a pack of Marb lights...and wow these suck after just a few days off of them. They taste like burnt dog and I stink again now.

I really want to figure this e-cig thing out and soon. So here I am, typing a freaking book (sorry about that) about my venture thus far. I don't really know if I have anything narrowed down other than I want the e-cig to somewhat resemble an analogue so the transition will be easier. I also like the idea of the PCC's in some of the kits. I've looked at so many kits that my head is spinning and I think I've got it down to Halo G6, SI Volt, Elite Vaporworks Signature 808, or Vapor4Life. Any support you all could offer would be awesome.

Thanks for putting up with my rant,
Shaun

Edit: The name of that horrible disposable was xhaleO2 btw.

You came to the right place! There is a ton of info here and a lot of great people that are more than willing to help. I never liked the look a like ecigs, never really had any luck until I switched to a ego. If you really want a look a like, a lot of people on here recommend this Smokeless Image | The Best Electronic Cigarette I think the volt. I woul get away from anything that looks or tastes like a cigarette since that's what you are trying to quit. I would start off with ego twist batteries and mini vivi nova tanks. I have had great luck with both of them.

I switched for many of the same reasons a year ago using Halo's G6s. I still use them daily but have picked up a Twist recently for busy weekends.

I know the feeling Shaun, same here. I started with a disposable then got a NicStick kit. I really like the NicStick but the disposable & Joys from Walmart tasted like plastic. You must be ahead of me because you're throwing out initials I have no idea what they are... Good luck, we'll need it....

Nah, not really that ahead of you really...just like I said, read so much i feel like I was cramming for an exam lol. And yes, we will need luck. Good luck to you too.

Hey Ynot, thanks for that suggestion. I'll check em out asap.

CayCay, I will def look for something other than the v2! They tasted great but she plunked like $250 on what she got them. Crazy now that I'm seeing what it out there.

Stevo9, thanks for the idea on the smokeless image stuff. I don't really know if I'm ready for the eGo and stuff though...eventually it will probably happen but not quite yet.

Hi Nitequitter. Welcome to the ECF. I Would second your selection of the kr808-d1 IF you are certain a slim style unit is right for you. The basic numbers work out like this. The general accepted numbers are that 100mAh of battery capacity is equivalent to about 1 hour of use time for an average vaper. Now assume you will be out of the house for about eight to ten hours per day. The standard size battery for the kr808 is 280mAh there are longer ones that are 380mAH and a short version that is 180mAh. If you have ready access to power or opt for the optional Portable Charging Case you should be happy with the device. My only personal issue with the slim batteries is the fact that they are easy to run dead and do charge rather slowly. They where great when I began vaping, they where a convenient easy transition. Once I got into vaping, and got my groove they couldnt keep up with my own personal pace. Keep in mind that My unit was a short 180mAh unit and therefore I decided to upgrade to a unit with more capacity. This upgrade shortly after I began vaping added better control because it had a button versus the automaatic I started with and much more capacity at 650mAh. This capacity allowed me to run lower ohm load attachment, yet again increasing my satisfaction.

I am not telling you to deviate from your original plan of the kr8, what I'm saying is that get the most capacity you think you will personally be ok with using. If you can avoid the slim batteries all together then Yay, if not the kr8 is the right one to have. I would also recommend the addition of at least one manual style battery.

On to the vendor recommendation. If you decide that the kr808 is right for you then I would suggest the Smokeless Image kit, with the 78mm upgrade($1 extra) and the personal charging case option. If you decide that you may be ok with something a little bigger in diameter then there are lots of other options. Lastly do get some blank cartomizers and a selection of liquid to fill them with. You will find that it is very easy to get the hang of filling a cartomizer, this allows a multitude of flavors that are not available in prefilled cartos and it is much less expensive. Good Luck. Happy Vaping.

I'm kinda new at this myself but thought I'd share some distilled learnin ;) .
I started with the blu... good eliquid but the little batteries were a pain (changing a battery every couple of hours... bah) Then I on a whim while at Wal-Mart got a mistic kit (27$) It was much better but the flavors were not so good. Then I found this place. Went to the Rawr website and got a sample pack o flavored eliquid. Then when they arrived I bought some Everclear 190proof, pulled the plastic plug with the hole you suck through off and soaked the cartomizers that the kit came with (3) to extract the liquid. Let that sit over night, then the next day rolled up some two inch strips of paper towel stuck it into the end of the cartomizers to pull the alcohol out of the stuffing. Let that sit another day. (I went back to wally world and got more cartomizers (5 pack menthol ~16$) to keep me happy while things dried. Once the cartomizers were dry I filled them with the new Rawr liquids... WOW!!! What a difference.

People speak highly of the eGo twist. You could buy two, a charger and some cartomizers for ~60$ and get some ejuce for another 20$ and be well on your way.

Edit: Oh yeah, You'll need to get some drip tips (little mouth pieces) to go on the end of the cartomizers if you don't want to reuse the little plastic plugs that come on the cartomizers. The Mistics take a 501/910 size.

I tried the cig look a likes and could not quit the analogs, although I cut down considerably. I like you did a lot of research on ecf and ordered a Riva T kit with 1100 mAh batteries and couldn't be happier. I am on my forth week analog free. It's not a bad setup in my opinion. I bought some sample packs of juice the next week to help me find some I really liked. Halo Prime 15 is my all day vape, actually I rarely vape anything else. I did get a Vivi Nova 2.5v tank a couple of weeks later and love it. I highly recommend trying something similar. I got my Riva kit at EVcigarettes.com, and my tank at Surevapes. Good luck to you!

Well all, here goes the update. Between my research over the last few days including tonight and the few recommendations in this thread alone for the Smokeless Image Volt, I bit the bullet and placed an order not 5 minutes ago. I ordered the Pro kit, the Mega PCC (personal charger case), an extra battery (that makes 3 total w/2manual), a car charger, a usb charger, an extra pack of xl blank cartomizers, and a 30ml bottle of liquid. Found a coupon and saved 16% on entire order. With any luck I should be vaping and quitting these Marbs within a week (hopefully sooner). Total out the door was ~$95 usd (paid extra for quicker shipping since I have an instant gratification issue lol). Wish me luck! Oh, and thanks again for all your input thus far.

Since it seems that vaping turns into quite the full time hobby I will be "seeing" a lot more of you all.

Cheers,
Shaun

Good choice on Volt, I'm using that one too. Now start shopping for e-liquid, try to get some samples size bottle like 5ml bottles. RawR is pretty good start and have a verities of sample flavor. ECBLEND is pretty cheap and you can create your own. I also recommend CE3 instead of regular cartomizers from Smokeless Image as well, you will be amaze with pure flavor you got from them.

Congratulations on placing your first order.

Now that you have ordered your starter kit the next challenge will be to find juice flavors you like. I vastly preferred the taste of my first vape over that of cigarettes which I believe went a long way in helping me quit immediately. Since you liked the taste of your friend's v2 juice I would strongly recommend ordering enough of that to hold you over for a couple of weeks while you shop for more flavors.

If you smoked a pack a day or more stick with the 18 ml v2 juice. They don't offer 24 ml juice which you will very likely need if you are a heavy smoker. If you smoked less than a pack a day try both the 18 ml and 12 ml juice.

Vaping has a huge world of flavors to offer. Order sample sizes from different places to find what you like the best. Be adventurous and try fruits, deserts, candies and beverage flavors. You will probably end up being surprised about what you find you like and don't like.

You can find a list of popular juice sellers in post #1276 on the Top 5 vendors (e-liquid) thread.

DancingHeretik, Thanks for the info about the pic and freebies!

I will def be looking for liquid now. I'm about a 1/2-3/4 PAD smoker so in rough numbers I'm (purely guessing here of course lol) figuring maybe 30ml/15-20 days or so and will probably plan on 30ml per 2weeks just to be safe. Oh, and being a < 1 PAD smoker I went with the recommended 18mg content. I'm really not sure about the juicy and desert flavors though but they seem to be highly regarded so I guess I'll have to at least try 'em.

Those CE3 cartomizers look pretty cool. Are they easier to refill as well as tasting better?

I can't wait to get the kit in the mail.

^^^^ Newbie myself...I had my last analogue on Tuesday Sept 25th 2012 at noon MST and haven't looked back...ok, granted it's only been a bit over 48 hours, but whatever. So far I'm loving this and thouroughly enjoying my DCT eGO from Smoktech. I was a very heavy smoker (2 PAD +) and the battery and a filled tank last me all day long so I don't have to stop and mess with it.

In RE to the desert flavours, etc...I'm with ya, not sure about those. For now I'm sticking with my RY4 and 3&5. I have a buddy who vapes, and he uses the deserty stuff primarily to mix with other stuff.

The CE3 will required syringe to fill but once you get a hang with it should be simple enough. I have total of 9 CE3s in use so I don't have to fill that often. There is a video of how to fill / refill and clean over SI website or search for Mr.outraw's video. I smoke half a pack a day so I only use about 1ml a day of e-juice.
