I can't explain how many times I have googled something vape related and typed "e cigarette forum" alongside to get the best advice from this forum. Most of the well known members of this community have posted their replies to many inquiries by others which helped me a lot. I wished I had joined the community earlier so I can also become part of this amazing smoke-free atmosphere. I am just here to introduce myself today.

vaping background: I was vaping Juul mint pods since 2016, giving about 1yr and 8m dedicated to Juul. I was subscribing monthly to Juul pods and paying close to anywhere between $130USD-150USD. That's almost 3K I have spent on the company so far regarding how many times I had lost a Juul just to buy another one. So recently I quit my subscription and felt very happy about it.

My first builds: I was building on protank mini 2 while working with Juul, and I was building on the serpent mini for a long time and getting juice from vendors outside which also costed me quite some bucks. I also own a VTC mini, provari and Nugget mod for stealthy vaping.

Present: I am still loving the MTL vaping experience hence I ended up buying myself an authentic Kayfun Prime recently. I am honestly loving the prime a lot although I wish I was able to go for a kayfun 3.1 which is discontinued now or a kayfun mini v3 which is sold out atm. I will be using my prime on a Smok priv-2 very soon. I have recently gotten into DIY and been practicing making different ratio juices with different mg of nicotine.

My thoughts on DIY: I am an ex-smoker and I quit all together about 6 months ago. Before that, I would smoke less than I did when I didn't have the Juul. With DIY I did many tests with VG/PG ratios and this is my conclusion on them regarding my body: If it's high VG, I will wheeze and feel heaviness in my chest. If it's high PG, I will sneeze a bit, and feel dried inside. I tried these testing with 80vg/20pg and 20vg/80pg. And now I am really liking it at 60vg/40pg with slight wheezing still. I tried 50/50 but it felt a bit dry for me around my throat area. I do realize I need to drink lots of water which I do. With nicotine: I believe 6-8mg works great for me but my first order was in VG-based which is not so easy to work with as you might know yourself. My next order of nicotine will be in PG-base.

My concerns: I am a little concerned about the flavorings I am using, and if too much flavoring will cause some kind of discomfort for others as well, as it is doing for me. Now I know testing is the best way to conclude what works best for my body but I was wondering if my body is just not accepting to some of the flavors out there. I do realize my lungs are still getting use to vaping and I shouldn't consider 6 months to be a long time before quitting analogs. The way I figured which vg/pg ratio works for me, and how much nicotine I may need, my goal out here now is to get as many experts together to give a list of flavors they do not have problems with compare to list of flavors they do have problems with. I tried searching a lot for this concern of mine but I was able to only find which ingredients to not use in your DIY. I am new to DIY, and some companies I believe will not list the ingredients in certain flavors, nor do I know which certain ingredient might not work good for my body. This is the reason why I would really like to get a list of flavors that are troublesome free with everybody. May I work with only those flavors and hopefully get better results. With my testing, I was able to get the 40pg/60vg @ 6mg with about 5 drops of mint, 2 drops of menthol per 15ml without a problem except for a bit of wheezing. Then I moved to something a bit more complex, well at least for me, and added the 40/60@6mg with about 10% flavoring I found on ELR and it began to give me a rough/sick feeling. I coughed a bit on it, felt a little harsh, felt it was the flavoring to do that to me. If I did miss the forum somewhere, and if you guys do have a list of all the flavors known to be at no issue for the DIY users, please do inform me about them. Would you suggest I do one vendor instead of mixing them? Such as work with flavourart only, or work with TFA only, etc. Thank you for reading guys! Happy vaping.

Everyone is different so the flavors that are bothersome to you might be entirely different from the flavors that are bothersome to others. You might just be a little high on nicotine - that depends on the ohms of your coil, etc. Nic Salts are smoother than freebase nic if you are going above 3mg.

The DIY forum is linked below - you might find answers to your questions there or at least, you can read about experiences that might match your own.

Hi, Welcome to ECF and glad you introduced yourself. Welcome to "visibility" and I hope you enjoy your time here at ECF.

The DIY forum will probably be your friend, tons of helpful folks with a lot of experience and who can assist you with flavor issues. Welcome!

Anna
Thank you Anna, glad to see you welcoming me. I seen a lot of your posts and I enjoy reading your comments! I know you're into salt-based nicotine which I might get into as well in the future, but what would you say the nicotine intake is like, are you able to tell better with salt based nicotine that you have had enough? lol ... with freebase I keep on going until I feel over-nic'd. Thanks once again!

I will take your advice on lowering my nicotine, I believe that would make things better for me and perhaps I feel less sick putting more flavors into my mix. Thanks a bunch for your help! and I will look into the DIY section.

Well, some make claims that nic salts are more quickly bioavailable. I honestly haven't noticed a huge difference since I started DIY with it. Less harshness, definitely, but I transitioned 1:1 from freebase nicotine to nic salts. The problem that could arise if you over vape is that you might do so more quickly, and get more nic sick than you'd expect, if you vape a lot in a short period of time. I haven't had issues with it, but that's not to say that it isn't possible.

I mainly use it for lack of throat hit, which I don't really enjoy. My respiratory system was shot when I started vaping, completely shot, including my throat (my docs though I had laryngeal cancer for a bit) so a harsh hit is not what I was looking for.

Other than that, I find it to be just what it is, nicotine, with less harshness. I like nic salts and plan on continuing to use them, but you may want to reduce your nic first if you are still getting nic sick, and then see if you really "need" nicotine salts.. There is a method to convert freebase nicotine to nic salts using citric acid, although I don't know exactly how it works.

Most vendors will send you a sample of nic salts to try for the cost of shipping, that might be worth doing to make sure you get a nic salt you like. I use Nicotine river and I like their nic salts, and they don't use benzoic acid to make them.

Best of luck,

Anna

Thank you Anna for the quick reply. I will look more into it and see how it works out, for now let me try putting my nicotine level lower and see how that works for me with more flavors. I will try that sample as well and make a batch with it to see if it doesn't give me a burning sensation on my throat or if it does anything better for me. Thanks once again! t.c.

    Hey Zen.

If it was Me, I would try to Lock Down my PG|VG Ratio and Nicotine mg/ml first by doing some small Unflavored test batches before getting too involved in Flavors. It might that something like 30%PG | 70%VG is the sweet spot you are looking for? Or it might be that 3mg/ml works better for you with a given amount of PG and VG.

Once you have your PG|VG Ratio pretty much established then for simplicity you could consider your Flavorings to be All PG. And account for them as part of the PG Component.

Also, Don't be afraid to use Less Totally Flavoring than are shown in Many posted recipes.

As for Flavoring Brands. That is all kinda Subjective. I like many of the Fruit Flavors in the FlavourArt line. And many of the "Brown" Dessert Flavors that TFA offers.

One thing that I think is a Big Plus about FlaourArt and TFA is their concentration are Similar for most of their Non-Tobacco Flavors. So (many times) Flavorings can be "Interchangeable" and about the Same flavoring percentage.

DIY does take some Trial and Error. And a Degree of Patience when it comes to letting a Newly Mixed recipe "Steep".

But whatever you do, just make sure you Keep Detailed and Accurate Records. That is Really the Key to doing DIY.

Using distilled water in my diy helped relieve my heavy lung feeling. I would suggest you try a base of 70vg/30pg/5dw. This base will give you a smoother th and may help you as well with your lung "feel". You can go up to 10% with dw, but 5% is a better starting point imo.

I heard good things about the Russian 91. Hopefully I can get one in the future to test it out. Thank you. And I don't think I would be needing those funnels because I am using syringes without the pin attached (I cut them off) and they're giving me the advantage to fill with ease. I am just having trouble with the nicotine because it's VG based and I end up using more but now I am keeping it below what my calculator shows.

Yes thank you so much for your reply and for your warm welcome. I might have been trying different ratios and working with my nicotine while you were writing that thus the late reply. Yes I been working around all ratios and getting use to what works best for me. I am really enjoying the hype around 60vg/40pg. And like the others said, I did bring my nicotine down and it's a lot more enjoyable to me with pretty much better results. I was adding about 5-7 drops of mint just to get a little bit of flavoring for my testing but I realized it's not that bad by itself for testing either. I did order about 20 different flavors and will be doing about 3-4 different makes off of ELR. Like you said, I did kind of change up on the flavoring percentage a bit depending on the recipe. I did find some great makers on there that are doing exactly what I am hopefully going to like. Some that are using less flavoring to get it right. Thank you once again for taking your time to write up, and for informing me about the DIY methods.

No. Each vendor is different. Might want to stick to blenders that claim natural or organic (price tends to be much higher) flavors, you really have to read everyones MSD sheets for each flavor.
