Hello everyone! My name is Kimberly and I am a new member. I have been vaping for about 1.5 yrs now, originally starting at 12mg, then down to 6mg for about the past year. I did smoke for many, many years prior..menthol at that.I recently moved from Florida to Texas and have applied for a job at a hospital (healthcare is my background) but they have a zero tolerance for tobacco products and if you attest to using these products you will not be considered for employment. Initially, I selected no, as the question asked if I had used tobacco products in the last 9 days which I had not, but then was told, ecigs are also banned. I read they originally do not test applicants but they have to attest they are not using any kind of "nicotine delivery system" to remain eligible for hire. But that was like 2 yrs ago and I want to be prepared in case I do have to test. I have switched to 0mg and started yesterday (my interview was today). I DO plan to remain on 0mg. How long do you think it will take at 0mg for it not to show up in my urine? Since moving here 2 weeks ago, i am staying with my mother until my husbands comes later on (he stayed to finish his job) and she smokes, like 2 packs a day and I am around it all day? Will that also show up??

Any advice would be helpful!! Thank you!!

Hello Kim and welcome to the forum. Congrats on reaching O, it's my goal. I don't have an answer to your question, but there might ne one in the Health section. Use the search box at the top of the page. Someone also might come along and read your post and have the answer. I wish you the best.

I just copied and pasted this.

The lingering presence of nicotine in the body acts as a reminder for nicotine consumption. It is popularly believed that nicotine is released from the human body within 72 hours of its consumption, but the truth is far different. The various aspects of nicotine storage in the body last for weeks after the most recent consumption of nicotine. Many people wonder about how long nicotine stays in your blood. Blood harbors both nicotine and metabolites released by nicotine. Once nicotine consumption is stopped, then both nicotine levels and nicotine metabolite levels in the blood decrease, but it must be kept in mind that these levels do not disappear altogether. The simplest answer to the question of how long does it take for nicotine to leave your system is a few weeks.

Nicotine can be detected in urine for a few days. Make sure your 0 nic liquid is made at the shop that way you'll be able to see it just has the PG, VG and flavoring because some 0 nic liquids have trace amounts of nicotine.

Also what a ridiculous policy they have - not like they ban other legal drugs like caffeine.

Many years ago I had to take a physical for Insurance which included a blood test for nicotine (I was applying for insurance as a non-smoker). I quit smoking for 7 days before the blood test and it came back clean.

A phlebotomist(sp?) friend of mine had a patient one time applying for insurance as a non-smoker. The man had quit some years prior but worked in a bar where smoking was allowed and a few tests came back positive. My friend suggested he take a week off work and try again, this did the trick. Again, this was blood, not urine.

As a healthcare professional you'll know that the answer will be highly variable. Factors to consider that haven't been mentioned.

1) Drug testing method (Urine, Hair, blood, saliva etc.)
2) Threshold detection levels (varies between drug tests)
3) How long have you been vaping? It'll take longer since you've vaping for awhile.

I don't think you'll like my estimate, but I always tend to over shoot things out of safety. You can dig around the medical forums of other websites. You're not the only one dealing with this.

Here is a website that I had bookmarked but I am really not sure so you be the judge. Sorry I did not have more references bookmarked.
