new member. good cloud, not much flavor

Hi all.
Name here is jerry. Im a truck driver so all my posts are done while doing 80mph so bare with my typing errors.
Ive been vaping for 4 weeks now. Used to smoke a pipe with real t9bacco. Not cigs with all the additives. 4 to 5 large b9wls a day and i inhaled a lot of it. Im now using a itaste battery holder that is adjustable. And a kayfun tank with the adjustable air flow screw. Im no pro so the proper terms are foren to me. I understand the building process. I dont have leakage or flooding problems. Ive made coils that are 1.8 to 0.8 ohms. I use cotton for wicking. I dont get dry hits. My issue is the flavor.

When i was at the vape store i found a juice that i liked take tasted like my coffee called late yay. I like my coffee on the sweet side. Got to keep up my truck driver figure you know.

Anyway, i find that i get a good enough cloud. Not huge but enough to satify me but the taste in my vape tool is barely noticeable. When i trsted it in the little tool at the vape shop it was full flavored. When i put the juice in my cheep little tool (the first one i bought that had the screw in vactory built coils) it was full flavor.

Now that im using the kayfun and building my own coils and wicks i barelt taste the flavor.
Anyone got any ideas why?

This building thing and wicking dont seem like rocket science to me but maybe im missing somrthing. I tried diff ohm coils, diff voltages (im running around 8v now) and diff air flow rates.

Why???

BTW, right now im using a 0.8 coil i made on an 1/16th inch drill bit. Pulling cotton through the coil was tough. And im using 28 wire with 6/7 turns i think.

try building a 30 gauge paralel wire on aprox 2 mm with 6-7 turns, will come out to about 1 ohm and is my go to coil, plenty of flavor and vapor

Kayfuns seem to perform best at 1.2 - 1.4 ohms. 8 or 9 wraps with .28 should get you pretty close with a 3/32 bit. Also, the cotton should have a bit of resistance going through the coil but it shouldn't be real tight. It swells when it's wet and that will choke your coil. With kayfuns, less is more when it comes to wicking. Also, can you still taste the full flavor on your cheapo device? We tend to build up an immunity to our favorite flavors sometimes.

You get hardly any flavor.

I agree that kayfuns seem to work better around 1.2-1.5 ohms. I just stick with a 1.2 micro coil. But, the wicking really influences the flavor. As A4004 said, try less cotton on your current build - see if it makes a difference, then, maybe try a new coil build.

I'm only suggesting this because when troubleshooting, it's often best to change one thing at once so you can see the effect it has on your issue.

Welcome to ECF. You've got good advice so far. Might want to try a different flavor. I keep a couple Kayfuns loaded all day and when one starts losing flavor, I switch.

I will change wicks first and give it another try. I just wish you didnt have to empty the juice out to do any work on the coil. I guess i should try to find meva large suringe somewhere. That would help a lot.
Is that something i can buy at qvc? Never tried to buy a needle before.

Vape shops, some at least, carry syringes with blunt needles. I keep a few around for sucking the juice out of my Kayfun tanks also you can take the top off the tank and pore the juice into a container or your juice bottle. Syringes can also be handy for winding coils. Drug stores are not gonna sell you a syringe, been there dun that.

Emptying the juice isn't that hard. Just put you finger over the airhole, unscrew the top, and pour back in the bottle (best not done at 80 though). If you want, you can also get big syringes at Tractor Supply or most feed stores.

Last night i rewicked with around a 1\6th of the thickness of a cotton ball on the 1\32 inch coil. Seemed to flood. So i did some reading on the www and found a didd style coil called a navy nest. Gave that a try and was getting dry hits. So built a reg coil on 3/32 inch drill bit. Wicked it with 1/4 thickness of cotton ball and all seems ok this morning. Not a lot of flavor but more than the last couple days. Coil is at 1.4 ohms.

Was thinking maybe moe cotten next time and a diff flavor. This flavor tastes like my coffee so much that maybe im just too used to it.
Ill do some more reading on this site and hopefully come up with something that works well for me. I was going to buy another kayfun so id have two glavors on hand but it i cant get the first one to work right id better wait.

Still open to sugestions if anyones got any more pointers.
