hello ECF,
I have been using this forum for about a year or so for learning all things EC but i didnt feel the need to create an account and make posts until recently. Im getting started with both DIY juice mixing and coil/cotton making. I started with a Subox mini starter kit, a DIY juice mixing starter kit, ( from Kidneypuncher.com ) and a TOBH Atty clone by EHPRO (mostly for taste testing flavors).
I mostly started mixing juice to save money, both now and possibly after a 95% tax that is a constant concern to WA state vapers; but also to make some great flavors that are completely custom. I have been trying mostly with TFA flavors so far. Id really like to make a nice fruity mix or two that isnt subtle. My problem so far is that the fruit flavors i mix are too subtle, they remind me of flavored water, like a glass of water with a small shot of MIO or something like that in it. Id much prefer something that tastes closer to a mouthful of blueberries. Im going to include a few of my mixes and notes on them so that maybe someone will be able to point out what im doing wrong so far.
TFA blueberry Extra - mixed at 10mg/ml nic, 80%VG/20%PG, and overall 15% flavor
( this is my favorite so far, on the inhale it adds a tart/tangy blueberry feeling on your tongue, but its more of a feeling than a taste id say )
TFA strawberry and strawberry Ripe - mixed the same as above
( fairly similar outcome to above, more of a feeling on the tongue than what i would conside to be a full bodied 'flavor' )
I have tried quite a few more than these but they are the best 2 examples of recipies i have that are IMO very mellow.
Is it the 80% VG that is killing my flavor? (starting with high VG to minimize throat hit, im not a fan of it )
I feel like the 10%-20% flavor range i have been using should be plenty, is it too little?

Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give,
SmokeyWA

Firstly welcome to the forums..

Your mix for 80VG seems really good and is what I use, it won't kill the flavour at all, well not sub ohming. I always mix at around 15% too and find it to be a really good balance when sub ohming at 0.25ohm..
Mixing your TPA Ripe with Linda's TPA Strawberry is also bang on and works well.. I like a more creamy vape which I find brings out the fruits better and aren't as sharp.

CAP Vanilla Custard 7%
TPA Strawberry Ripe 4%
TPA Strawberry 2%
TPA Sweet Cream 2%

That would probably be to creamy for you, I'm not sure, you could try some citrus flavours maybe to bring out a tangy vape..

TPA Strawberry Ripe 6%
TPA Strawberry 3%
TPA Banana Ripe 2%
TPA Apple 3%

That is a complete guess but I doubt Im far off a fruity vape there, as above, maybe some lime or lemon but I never mix without Capella Vanilla custard and a little cream as it just brings all the fruits together, just fruits would probably blow my head off.. There are many options, like adding cinnamon or even red hot cinnamon, it's all about trail and error, I make up 5ml batches and just keep testing, you will get there eventually and it's kind of fun along the way, just don't make large batches up to test..Also a weeks steeping can really change / bring out the flavours too..Capella's flavours mixed with Flavour Art can be pretty strong too..
A good thing to remember, upping your percentage can sometimes actually mute the flavours..

I've probably not been much help but I'm sure there are some fruity members that can help more ;)

Ah @Sir2fyablyNutz has just linked you up, probably useful for me too, thanks..

Have you seen this spreadsheet? 1agXdua8bEp8MV4z1mn3qX4AXCS4P0RxQXcy2lDa7ccc
Just to give you an idea of standalone percentages. They vary greatly, not just from brand to brand, but also within the brand. You can go by the mean, or take a look at the row to see if there are any trends (like 7, 7, 7, 25, 7, 7, 7 - from this you can guess that most people do 7% ).

OSDIY has a blue raspberry slushie flavoring that is awesome. I mix it at 20% because I like strong flavors. But it's great alone or with a lil Koolada, and it's shake and vape. No steep time needed, but it does age well after a week. They also have a pink lemonade that's spot on, but made with real lemon juice. BIG throat hit and no good in a plastic tank.

A few of my other faves:
All 20%ish flavor and max VG (add flavors and nic juice, then fill with VG)

TFA Juicy Peach, Ripe Strawberry, Pear - equal parts (you can use TFA Pear Candy for a slightly sour bite, but doesn't taste as good)

TFA Ripe Strawberry, watermelon - equal parts (Watermelon jolly rancher kinda thing)

TFA DX Banana Cream, Ripe Strawberry - equal parts (Tastes like bubble gum)

10mL batch "Peach cobbler a la Mode (5 days steep time or all you taste is the cin roll)
0.5 ml OSDIY Baked Cinamon Roll (SUPER STRONG FLAVORING!!!!!!!! and I dont ike it by itself, but mixes well with other flavors)
0.5 ml TFA Juicy peach
1mL Flavor West Vanilla Ice Cream
5 drops TFA Vanilin (PG)

Banana Split? 10mL batch (21% flavor, Needs 5 days to steep at least)
1 ml TFA DX Banana Cream
1 ml Flavor West Vanilla Ice Cream
0.5 ml TFA Caramel
0.5 ml TFA Whipped Cream

TFA Honey Dew, Pear - equal parts (Honeydew is a STRONG flavor, but mellows a lil and blends in with a weeks steep time)

@cindycated Great Thanks, very useful :thumb:, 20% for CAP Vanilla custard is way to much lol..
What I do find amusing is the amount of premium well known retailers that sell juice use Capella and charge 300% profit haha.. Glad I got smart ..

Nice !! Can I ask what tank you vape these on, I just can't see it being sub ohm, lung hitting at 20%, aaahhh, so many factors to take into consideration

I lung hit most of them. The peach, pear, strawberry and honeydew pear are just for my KF's though. Too pungent for a dripper. The banana split and peach cobbler are just for the drippers though. Both are very creamy and just don't taste right in a MTL tank. I'm also working on a caramel macchiato, but haven't been able to nail it yet. Coffee flavors are a lil difficult. You can always cut back to 10 - 15% on the flavor if it's too much for you.

I like the creamier fruit vapes, like a blueberry custard. I do worry about diacetyl though. Any good recipes that dont have that in them?
You'd have to ask around HARD. The custard of choice that they often use seems to be Capella Vanilla Custard I, which definitely has it. Of course, if you mix your own, you could avoid it altogether, not have to worry about it, and get really good results. Capella makes a DIY flavor called Vanilla Custard V2 that doesn't have diacetyl, but not as tasty IMO. Most of Flavour Art's flavors have no diketones. There's also OneOnOne Flavors that doesn't use diacetyl (the other two diketones though).
