Hi all! I've been lurking around the forums for quite a while now, reading through posts and got interested in vaping to substitute my smoking habit.

Been smoking for a little over 10 years now, just started a family, and decided change my habits... (And also, to spare my ears from her nagging when i take a puff) :smokie:
Tried going cold turkey a few times, didn't help much, neither were the nicotine gums.

From what i've seen and experienced, vaping doesn't leave any strong smell like smoking does, and i understand that it's much healthier too.

Appreciate any helps/pointers that anyone will provide for a newbie like me. Thanks in advance. ;)

If you are interested in learning more about e-cigarettes (and all the parts and pieces) below are some blog posts by ECF member @Baditude that I highly recommend for someone new to vaping and/or looking to upgrade.

1. A Good Starter's Setup for a Beginning Vapor

Also if possible avoid the disposable clearos. I started on them and grew quickly frustrated. Was paying $6 each at local stores and they were crap after a week or so. Definitely try to get a tank with a replaceable coil.
Thanks for the advice. Will definitely have a look into this tank and coil thing.

Welcome! Glad to hear you want to start vaping.
I agree that cold turkey, gum, and patches have low success rates, and I was to afraid to take chantex...heard too many stories.

I've always though that smoking was more than just the cigarettes, but a habit for your hands. Thats a big reason vaping worked for me. Still got to go out on "smoke breaks", had the hand-to-mouth motion like smoking, and no nic headache, since liquids have nic in them, but no ash, tar, and chemicals. And say goodbye to the smell...haha.

I'd try go for a vape pen starter kit, like the Kanger eVod kit. Has everything you need, except the liquid. Check it out. I think you'll like it.

Hi, and welcome to the board. You'll find all the encouragement and advice you need around here. To get us started, have you bought any gear or started vaping yet? How much do you smoke?
Oh and thank you all for the warm welcome! I've tried some of my friend's, that was some years back. I have not bought any, mainly due to fear that i might buy the wrong stuff, and get a bad first impression that might put me off.

Welcome to the forum, Slobb! We're here to help!

I tried to quit smoking using chantix, zyban, gum, patches, lozenges, inhalers, cold turkey (THAT was an absolute horror show!) and gas station e-cigs. Nothing worked until I started vaping.
Thank you K_Tech! Yeah cold turkey was just the worst, sleepless nights and sleepy days...

That's a valid worry, but there really are a lot of quality setups out there that you can get into for not a lot of money. You can absolutely spend hundreds of dollars if you want, but there's good stuff for under $100 that will get you vaping.

Two ways to go: start slow to see if it's gonna work for you, or dive in head first. Start slow, the Kanger EVOD starter kit. This kit will give you two complete vape pens, that is two batteries, two tanks, 5 coils and a charger cord. Two batteries is necessary because you can't vape one while it's charging. Two tanks is useful to make it easy to change flavors. Dive in head first, take a look at an iStick 20 or iStick 30 and a Aspire Nautilus tank, either full size or mini. The former is less expensive, but there's a real chance the money will just be gone in a few weeks. Most of us started right there, and very quickly moved on to better and more powerful gear. The latter choice is a bit more expensive to get started, but gives you more room to grow and might be all you need ever for as long as they last. There are a lot of people who find their vape in the 20-30 watt range. Beyond that, go to your local B&M store. Most of them have "juice bars" where you can try e-liquids for free. This will help you in selecting what to buy. Tell me if you want to just stick your toe in or go whole hog, and how much you smoke now, and if you want to quit cigs immediately and completely or be a "dual user" while you ween off, and I'll tell you a bit more about the kind of gear you're looking at and what strength nic liquid to buy.

Thanks for the warm welcome thailand! Yrah i agree that its mostly a hand to mouth action that keeps me busy. When i went cold turkey for a month, i was at a loss of what to do when i had some free time during work, or needed to clear my head when i was under pressure at work. Smoking has always made me take a mental break from whatever i was doing and re-focus.

Thanks for the tip! I was thinking of doing both cigs and vaping while i ween off the former and get used to the latter. But as a heads up, where im at, we dont have any places that sell vaping equipment, hence my reluctance to start. Was also thinking of doing a proper research and getting some feedback before i go ahead with my first purchase. Currently im smoking a pack for 2 days.

Hey y'all! I joined this site b/c of the reviews and I'm also looking for a place to find a bottom connector pin for my Tree of Life mod. My original pin for this mod was destroyed by a careless mistake by my friend/roomie and I'd like to fix it, but I can't seem to find where to get this part. If someone could help a fellow vaper out, that would be swell. I'm just glad my friend had a mod that we can share, or I'd be up the creek without a paddle, as it were.

At half a pack a day, I'd suggest 6% or 6mg/ml nicotine level in your juice. If there's no place nearby to try out juices, you'll have to fly blind. Pick out flavors you think you might like-- fruits, mints, tobaccos, whatever-- and order as sample pack from a vendor; practically all of them sell them. When they come in you'll have several to try and you might like one or two. That'll tell you what to order for the future. Even the ones you don't like will have nicotine to keep you going if you run out one day while waiting for a shipment. And the next time you go in to town, plan some time at the juice bar. (In the future, if this works out, you can DIY your own juice. I do. It's a lot cheaper, too.) As for the gear, you can buy a low power starter kit in the 30-40 range. A more powerful kit, which I would recommend, will be in the 60-70 bucks range. We'll keep talking about it, I'm sure :)

Thanks for the tip and advice! I dont think theres any way that i can get to a juice bar here. Im from a certain asian country that like has banned importing of e-cigs recently. Hence the difficulty of getting a hold of suppliers/sellers or samples. But, i have been thinking, when there's a will, there's a way. I guess I'll keep reading around the forums to find out more, or maybe take a peek at the local forum.
A question though, what is a verified member, and what do i have to do to get that?

Welcome.

Stay away from tobacco flavors. When you go to vaping NEVER touch another cigarette or the addiction will be back again. Start hanging out with non smoking friends because just smelling the smoke will make you want s cigarette.
