Hi,

Howard from the UK, been a lurker for a while so seemed polite to join.

I'm nearly 60 and have (had) been a smoker for 45 of those years.

I was a smoker not through any real choice, all of my family seniors and peers smoked when I was growing up in the 1960's so it was 'natural' to smoke.

By chance, my local convenience store started stocking some cheapo Chinese Ergo devices for a quick buck, and I figured that for an investment of £30 or $40 it wouldn't break the bank to get an Ergo system with battery, charger and 10ml of juice.

Yes, some of you may chuckle, but this primitive device got me into vaping.

vaping is not really a hobby for me, it is a direct replacement for smoking cigarettes.

Despite many governments in the EU raising their eyebrows at E-cigs at the moment about their effect on health, I can only give my testimony.

I have to climb three flights of stairs to get to my office (you know what's coming), and for the past couple of years have got out of breath and red-faced by the time I got to the top, since swapping cigarettes for vaping for eight months, I now ascend the previously Mount Everest stairs like a teenager.

Well EU, vaping may cause me to grow another head or go insane in ten years time, but for now, have a word with my Doctor who has seen my blood pressure reduce significantly and my lungs now sound like 'normal' rather than a coal miners lungs.

And my boss is more than happy for me to vape at my desk, she gets another hour out of me per day.

I now look forward to being alive long enough to read any replies.

Cheers for reading.

Congrats on the switch. I also switched over from a long history of smoking. I find vaping much more enjoyable and the juices are much tastier. Plus the smell is much more pleasant. Hopefully our governments will wake up to reality and see that vaping is much safer. I know for me I can now climb stairs without losing breath too. I also can run again. :vapor:

Welcome to ECF :vapor:

Thank you for the kind replies.

When I suggest vaping isn't a hobby, that might be doing it an injustice.

In my youth, I remember my Great Uncle was a pipe smoker, he had a drawer in his writing table (remember them?) where he kept his pipe paraphernalia, it was strictly off-bounds for kids, but I remember having a few sneaky-peeks, it had various bowls, stems and mouthpieces with all manner of scraping and cleaning implements, so that really was a hobby rather than buying twenty cigarettes from the newsagent.

I have to do some mild maintenance to my vaping gear, which I kind of enjoy, so maybe it is a bit of a hobby?

I only say that it isn't a hobby because I have found the equipment I like and that's it for me, I'm not going to buy multiple atties and mods to put on the shelf to admire, my gear is used and not stored.

I don't mix my own as such.

Being slightly tight I use off the shelf juice, but mix/dilute 50/50 with pure VG.

This increases the vape, halves the cost of juice (the VG is pennies) and brings the 28mg nicotine down to 14mg which is comparable to the analogues I used to devour. I only use a couple of flavours (I've tried millions) and I get no compromise on flavour diluting with VG.

Win, win.
