Hi all, new guy here with a quick question. So I've been vaping for a little while now, about 2 months, been sticking with my Smok AL85 as it's done everything I've needed so far. Today I went and purchased a new tank, the TFV8 Big Baby kit, mainly just for the bigger tank and to mess around with some different coils to see how I like them. The problem I'm having is that no matter which of the new coils(have tried the V8 Baby-x4 and the T6), it says "Check Battery". As soon as I put my original tank/coil back on there's no issue. Can anyone tell me what's causing this issue?

A short with the tank..?

Possible that your Smok AL85 just being a single battery mod can't handle the larger tank? It might detect the coil's range and go "no way I'm powering that thing"?

You should go back the the store and have them check it.

Well, you gave me reason to check mine.

I have a TFV8 Big Baby tank on a G-Priv and run it just under 60 watts. I put the tank on my AL85 set to 57 watts and it fires just fine with the battery showing about half charge. The AL85 being a single 18650 mod, probably not a good idea to go much over 60 watts. If you were trying to fire it at or near 85 watts with batteries under half charge, perhaps that is causing the message? Also might let us know what battery you are using.

I was under the impression the Big Baby and the Baby Beast used the same coils but as @OlderNDirt stated it could be lack of power to fire it.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking.. the battery was too low for the wire mass that these coils have.
I've had it happen to me with some batteries that they looked a bit low but should still work, but when fired, the battery would flat-line completely.

Yes, the coils are interchangeable. But, if one gets the Big Baby with the Stick V8 kit, it takes the M2 coil. All the coils will interchange, but whichever tank one puts on the Stick must use the M2 coils which should not be used on other mods. That is how I understand it.

And it would be nice if the op's solution were posted for other readers.
