Hi Everybody,
pretty new to "vaping", played with one a little and then my wife and I bought smoktech mods and tapered off the cigarettes and now only use the vaporizers. We have 2 different models but are similar, mine is the SID model. We were told by the store employees where we bought them that we appeared to be more cartomizer? type users than pro-tank users and let us try them side by side. We thought the first and not sure I have terminology right, was a stronger initial burst but we have a pro-tank from a son and now are second guessing our decision. We did go back and buy the locking type tanks after I pulled the tank up but not the mod getting the juice all over me. I did not realize it was that easy to do that and didn't like that there was no safety factor to keep you from accidentally doing that. We are now wanting to explore options and I am very interested in what I can find out from this forum. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. :toast:

I'm sure you're going to get plenty of opinions on the whole carto versus clearo topic, but my view is that you should probably try both. The setups for either are not that expensive (compared to smoking, for instance) and if you got a little Kanger EVOD or T3S you could try out a clearo for comparison. There are plusses and minuses to each - cartos tend to have better flavour, clearo are less setup and maintenance - and each has a devoted following here on the forum. You should probably form your own opinion.

Cartomizers can provide excellent quality vapor. I don't understand how any salesperson could decide who is better suited to cartos than anyone else. Cartos and clearos both require some learning for satisfactory results. The learning curve for cartos involves priming a dry carto before first use and topping them off to provide the best vapor quality without burning. Many carto users upgrade to cartotank systems at a later point in time. Cartotank liquid reservoirs provide optimal carto performance with much less attention to refilling.

I agree that you should try both cartomizers and clearomizers. After using them for a while, one will stand out. Eventually, you may want to try buying a dripping atomizer such as the Igo-L. for around $10, they will save you money in the long run as you just wrap your own coils. The flavor and vapor will be better than both cartos and clearos. Buying some 28g Kanthal wire on eBay for a few bucks will last you months. you can buy silica wick as well or use cotton from cotton balls. When you get to this point, go to you tube and look up "microcoil build." You will find more than enough information to get you going. --Also, one thing about the SID. It is a great device. You want to make sure you don't tighten your attys too tight on it. The connection pin's rubber gasket will break down.

Thanks for the welcome everybody! I didn't even know there were replies because I thought I got emails, will have to check my settings in my profile I guess. We have been playing some with the Kanger Pro tank but we still like our carto tanks better. We did switch after the first day to the carto tanks that have the screw on lock on the bottom of the tank. The first night I went to grab mine from between my legs in the car and pulled the top of the tank off, juice all over my lap. OK, I'm a klutz but decided the locking tanks were the way to go after that! I also wonder what anyone could tell me about the difference between setting your voltage or setting your wattage? I was vaping at 4.5 or 4.7 volts but someone told me setting the watts was better so I changed to watts and have been running it at 12 watts but still don't know what difference it really makes? Thanks!

Congrats to you and the wife:toast: Clearomizers will hit different than cartomizers. I use both for different occasions. The carto gives better flavor than my clearos. Oh yeah, WELCOME the the ECF:laugh:

OK, guess I am starting to understand, tanks like the Kanger Pro are considered clearomizers?

Greetings jball49 :)

I'm about a week ahead of you..

I did exactly the same thing you did.. dumped a full tank in my crotch..
That really got me moving and gave me an awful headache.

Welcome.. this is a great place to learn stuff :)

Thanks! Yeah, dumping the tank in your lap the first night you have it, lol, has you second guessing the whole thing!

Good luck to both of you as the only good teacher is experience of what works best for you. Lots of trial and error and read what others have said as it takes a bit of time to find what you like but I am sure you will enjoy it like I do once you find what you enjoy. It is a never ending quest.

Thanks! One thing we found interesting when stopping in to a newer local brick and mortar store was that when trying their tobacco flavor juices which actually tasted more like tobacco we weren't too crazy about them just because we had already become accustomed to what the biggest retailer in the area sells with the KML name intended to simulate Camel I guess but really only a slight tobacco taste and actually very light in taste compared to all the tobacco flavors this newer shot had which of course amazed us that we didn't like those as much. My son who has been vaping quite a while told me "yeah, you kind of get a bias for whatever you get used to on flavor" which seems to be very true for us!

congrats john,,, let make smoky day :D

Thanks Much! :vapor:
