Hi I'm a new member I have been vaping for 2 years and wanted to get into mixing my own juice. I plan on buying a DYI starter kit that comes with everything I need to get started. Just wanted some feed back on what flavors I should choose. I think the kit comes with 10 flavors from all brands. What's a good starting point?

Thank you! I know I really enjoy fruity juices and and candy ones. I'm not sure which brands are the best to get. I don't want to waste the money on flavors I don't enjoy. I will try to find the recipes for dummies you are talking about.
Give me a minute, I'll give you a link. In the meantime post what site you will be ordering from.

Welcome to ECF!

Some members here will say "Don't buy a starter kit".

I disagree. Sure, you might get some stuff that you don't need and it's a bit more expensive but it's what I did and I don't regret it.

I DIY most of my own juice now and I'm saving lots of money. I also like the ability to have full control of my mix and I know what's in it.

Thank you I just wanted to buy everything at once in a kit to get going. I'm hoping it's a good choice. I just spend to much on juice and thought maybe it would be cheaper in the long run this way.

It's true that a "starter" kit may include flavors or instruments that you won't end up using, but it gets your foot in the door so to speak.

Or, do additional research and only buy those flavors that you'll likely enjoy and use. Note when finding recipes which flavors are most used. Perhaps buy larger bottles (30ml) of those primary flavors, and smaller bottles (10ml) of the secondary flavors.

If you are going to be using 1ml syringes to mix, buy several at a time because the markings on them disappear quickly with use. I've found a small funnel to be useful, as well as a graduated beaker.

I'll also say look on You Tube and do a search for "DIY E-liquid". There is a lot to learn and you're sure to make some mistakes. We all did. It's part of the learning process. Keep written records of your attempts, and label your finished e-liquids.

Thank you this is helpful. With the kit I'm thinking about buying it gives me the option to choose the flavors I want. I'm also not to sure as to which brands of flavor concentrates are the best. I like Alot of flavor and like fruit mixes. I think the bottles are 10 ml in size but I can choose 10 I think. I know the size are small but I think they would give me a chance to test flavors and if I like them I can always buy bigger sizes.

@GetSumz Only 10ml size bottles will limit you as far as recipes go, IMHO. Many recipes call for 8 - 10 ml of a particular flavor. This won't matter if you are going to be using just a single flavor to see if you like it.

Most of my flavors are from Flavor Art, Flavor Apprentice, Capella, and Inawera. It depends upon the recipes. I purchase most of my flavorings from Bull City Vapor, and they have customer reviews that can help you to decide which flavoring manufacturer to use. For example some flavorings are better for real fruit flavor and some better for fruit candy flavor. Of course, the reviews are subjective but better than nothing in my opinion.

10ml of concentrate will get you more juice than you think. What fruits and what type of candy (sweet & tart, hard candy, skittles, etc.) do you enjoy most. For example I love citrus, apple, pear, and grape fruits the most. I like rainbow and pixie stick candies the most.

The Flavor Apprentice (TFA) watermelon candy
Flavourart (FA) watermelon
FA kiwi
FA pear
TFA pear
TFA sweet and tart
Inawera (INW) shisha strawberry
TFA strawberry ripe
Wonder Flavor SC (WF SC) pixie stick candy
INW green apple (tart)
Capella Silver Line (cap SL) rainbow candy
These are flavors I enjoy using. For me they are good and many work very well combined. I would advise you to make your decisions after doing some homework and reading all you can find thru reviews and recipe notes. Sign up for NR mailing list so you get notifications of sales and do some reading between now and Easter, there will likely be a sale or coupon code available then.

If you buy the kit from Nicotine River you’ll get 15 flavor concentrates and it’s abt $50!

As for flavors to get - I google searched simple e recipes to see what might sound tasty to me. I took note of all the flavors in them and that’s how I came up with my list of 15 flavors.

Hi and welcome, it's great you are starting DIY. It really is one of my favorite things about vaping.

In the beginning, I didn't worry too much about flavor "brands" as they are all different, have some pluses and minuses, and they all vary in "strength" as well, to make things even more unsimple. LOL.

With that said, I read a ton of recipes and tasted a ton of commercial juices to get a sense of what I'd like. I started with "tester" sizes (many of which I am still using I might add, and I've mixed a fair amount of e-liquid by now). I started with single flavor mixes I combined in my tank, to get a sense of steeping times, and "what" went well with "what." I kept some commercial juice around during that time, so that I didn't rush myself. After doing the initial "work" of figuring out general percentages (that worked, for me) I was able to start combining things and knowing "about" how long my longest flavor needed to steep. For example things like custards and cremes need to "steep" for a while longer than berries, fruits and some candies. Etc.

Whatever method you use (and there is certainly nothing wrong with following an existing "recipe" as it were) keep notes, keep track of times, how things taste, and etc. Nothing worse than making a "perfect" mix and then not being able to replicate it.

You may also want to look at some "one shot" flavors, which are standalone flavors (I am of the opinion that some of them can be improved by adding flavors) but some are great alone. They can usually be shaken and vaped, without much or any steeping time and it's nice to have some "success" right away, as you start the process of learning about flavorings.

Best of luck, I'm sure you'll do fine. Nothing wrong with a starter kit at all either, although I did not begin that way, but any beginning is a good beginning. Keep asking questions as you go, and I'm sure your skills will develop as you continue mixing.

Happy mixing and I hope you find success!

Anna
