Everyone seems to take their own path to quitting cigarettes. Some people pick up a vape and never want to smoke again. They're the lucky ones, and there aren't too many of them. Some vape for a while, then smoothly phase out the cigarettes. Others have to decide "I will quit today" and then struggle, some more, some less, to stick to that.

Here are a few tips from my own experience, which may or may not be right for you:

  1. Get backups for all your vape gear. You never want to find yourself smoking a cigarette because your vape kit failed you. (This one's the exception - it's good advice for everyone!)
  2. Don't put too much pressure on yourself for the first few weeks at least. You want to make vaping a pleasant experience, not something you're forced to do while you're desperately wishing you could just have a cigarette. Spend some time finding out what gear, flavours and nicotine level you prefer.
  3. After a while, check to see if you're cutting down on the cigarettes. If you're smoking a lot less, just go on as you are for a while and see if you naturally phase out the smoking. If you haven't cut down your cigarette use significantly, then it's time for a decision. Do you want to set a cold turkey date, or do you want to cut down more gradually? If you choose the gradual option, set a schedule. So many cigarettes a day for a week or two, then drop a few and smoke that many for a week or two etc.
  4. If you're struggling, jump on ECF and let us know how and why. We've accumulated a lot of tips and tricks over the years. For example, some people find it useful to have two vapes on hand with different nicotine levels - one that suits them most of the time, and one with more nicotine for when they're dealing with a major craving.

So, how's your first day going? What gear are you using? Any questions about your setup or vaping in general?

Oh, and one more useful bit of info:
It's incredibly difficult to overdose dangerously on nicotine you're inhaling (if you're picking or spraying nicotine or drinking ejuice, it's another story - you can kill yourself doing that). Inhaled nicotine takes effect so quickly that you feel dreadful long before you consume a dangerous amount. The common symptoms of too much nicotine are: dizziness, headache, nausea and shakiness. If you encounter these symptoms, stop vaping or smoking for 1/2 hour or so and slow down or use lower nicotine juice when you restart.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Any suggestions?

My biggest suggestion is to not get caught up in the tobacco flavor rabbit hole if you can help it, or to at least realize that it is, in fact, a rabbit hole for most.

Some who follow that rabbit hole emerge at the other end victoriously to some degree (they find that tobacco flavor they love or they realize they don't need it), but it seems just as many get lost in that hole forever, never finding anything that satisfies them, yet they keep searching for that magic tobacco flavor.

IMHO, you are better off thinking of which flavors of foods, deserts, drinks you like best and spend you time and money on those liquid flavors instead.
