New members have to make 5 posts?

When a new member makes an initial post, I wonder, does it show up for all members when they click on new threads or do they have to navigate there on their own to see whats in newbie territory?

Not sure what you are asking. Any post in the New Member forum is visible to all members and shows up in the "What's New?" general activity stream.

Anyone can browse and post in the new member forum. +1 on what ^^ said.

You do not have to start 5 threads to get in your 5 posts. Just respond to some of us who welcome you and you will have your 5 posts. You can also post in another thread in this forum or start a new thread if your questions are not answered here.
