Not sure why this is happening. A few years back, I found what I liked in terms of tank/coil and stuck with it out of simplicity and convenience. It is a Kanger Subtank Nano with 1.2Ohm coils. I have used this tank and the OCC vertical coils with a Nemesis Mech Mod Clone, a Subox, and an Innoken Disrupter the latter of which I have used for about 2 years without any issues. Decided I needed something else since my Disrupter battery wasn't holding a charge very long.

As you can see, I am not a subohm'er and I usually vape between 17.5W (Medium air) or 20W Full air flow. I vape strictly 50/50, not terribly dark liquid for the most part (MBV East Coast Tobacco mostly). My coils usually lasted anywhere from a week to two weeks. They never really burned out, just mainly clogged and would under-perform so I would change them out.

So I bought a Tesla 120W Nano and love the look, feel, and operation. When a new coil is in it WOW, this thing is really awesome. However, I noticed something distressing - the coils start burning on this thing after about exactly 24 hours, which is obviously no good. I am using the same everything (including wattage), the volts are roughly the same (as my Disrupter), as is the exact Ohm reading. Anyone have any idea why this would be happening?

I would understand if I was really hammering on the wattage, but I am not..I don't like it that high. I have been looking into finally starting with an RTA as the coils are starting to get a bit expensive (even from fasttech). On that note, not sure where to start as I love my vertical coils and from what I have seen, the majority of rebuildables are horizontal singles? This Tesla mod came with an Arrow RDTA which I only looked at for a second...long enough to notice it looked like it had MASSIVE guage "wire" - quotes because it seems strange calling it wire at this point. Not sure about this tank as I can't find a whole lot of info on it - really none honestly.

Actually, this was 3 into a 5 pack. The one just before this one was actually from a whole other pack altogether. I have another one from even another pack. Will try that one and if it happens again, I'm thinking something isn't right. Either way I am going to look into rebuilding to save money. Going to even try this Arrow out but am thinking I won't like it very much due to it being subohm.

Good call.
Building you own coils will eliminate all of the mystery and many of your problems.

Wondering......since we are all creatures of habit..is this happening after the mod and tank have rested for any period of time.....like it works ok as soon as you fill and continues ok until you go to sleep and then hit it in the morning(or whenever you wake up)? Maybe if after its been sitting for a while....take some primer hits before hitting it for a vape? Not sure why that popped into my head as I was reading your post, but it did. Let us know.

:)

Rebuilding is the best and cheapest way to vape, IMO. I haven't used a factory built coil since my days with the Kanger Protank (that's dating myself!).

Prebuilt factory coils aren't without their quality control issues from time to time. There's always going to be the occasional bad batch that hits the shelves.

Are you seeing a crusted up coil when you take it out? Some are dry burnable and others aren't. If it uses a silica wick you can dry burn to clean it. If there's other than silica in it then the only fix is to replace it.

If you are using the same juice that you've always used, then it's probably a coil problem. From looking at the video below the obvious issue could be as simple as not enough cotton protruding from the holes on each side. That would cause low wicking and terrible flavor. It's also an issue that could arise from factory workers being pushed for production.

This Rip Trippers video takes you through an easy rebuild on that coil head. If you've saved your old heads, then you have a good stock for rebuilding. All you need is four or five heads to build your own for the foreseeable future. It's really easy to build and you'll save lots of money over factory coils.

Does anyone else ever feel like stabbing their eye sockets with red hot irons whenever they hear Riptrippers do an intro? The rest of the video is always him just talking normal, showing you good tips but damn those intros. It is like it's directed to minors or something.

Yup! The loudmouth gets the attention. It's probably an act designed to attract attention at trade shows that spills over into his video life.

LOL. that is why I use cc and have the speaker volume as low as it can go,especially when I view one of his videos

So, I figured out the problem and something I used to do but I forgot has solved my issue. I recalled that I did used to have this problem even with my old mod and after some research found that if I take a pin and made a hole in the wick straight through from side hole to side hole, it made a world of difference. Not sure why I had forgotten and stopped doing it (I had actually stopped well before getting this mod). I started doing that again and it makes a WORLD of difference - so long as I remember to check the level on my tank more often and don't kill it with a dry burn. Thanks for all the advice. I will probably look into rebuilding my own, but for now this is suitable.
