I tend to resist new fancy .... when it comes to vaping. I do NOT like to tinker and nothing frustrates me more than having to stop and mess with my mod.

I've been using an IPV2 mini for a year or so now. I build traditional single coils with 28ga Kanthal on the RBA deck of my Merlin at about 1 ohm and then fire it at about 15-20W. When it starts to taste funky, I replace the cotton and burn off the crud on the coils (my juices are pretty sweet). I'll keep using the same coil until it falls apart (often 2-3 months).

I'm not 100% happy with the Merlin. It doesn't quite produce the flavor of my Crown Uwell RBA (which leaks like a sieve). The gap between the juice holes and the glass wall is so thin, that it takes forever for juice to settle, and most frustratingly, it constantly has air bubbles that form on the juice hole, preventing juice from actually entering the hole.

That being said, I realize that fancy stuff comes out for a reason, and it might be time for me to catch up a bit with this ridiculously fast paced market. So, I'm here looking for suggestions for both a mod and tank (with more emphasis on the mod). My criteria:

  • I only vape on the go. My wife makes me go outside. My office makes me go down 12 floors. It needs to fit in my pocket.
  • I am battery cautious. There is something inherently stupid to discharging 20A through a tiny little resistor a few inches from your face. Nonetheless, I need my fix. So, I am looking for a single cell mod and would like to stay well below the 20A threshold. TBH, I go back and forth on single/dual cell mods, as I appreciate that a dual cell mod would reduce the current draw significantly for the same wattage; but, I am worried over the added hassle of pairing and alternating batteries.
  • I always build my own coils. I hate building coils; but I hate running out of stock coils even more. I'm pretty happy with a single micro-coil w/ 28ga @ ~1 ohm. I can power this at 20W (4.5A - 6.5A) pretty happily. Twisted, claptons, fused-claptons all sound interesting; but given the amount of complaints over the spitting, I feel that they might be an experiment at best. It also sounds like they are harder to clean (with so many grooves). My day-to-day will most likely be traditional micro-coils. I would prefer single, dual if the maintenance is low, maybe parallel. I mention this mainly to set an expectation of the maximum wattage I would need (I believe 100W is mainly for the more exotic builds with lots of metal).
  • I've never tried TC before. To me, it doesn't very useful -- at best it tells me that something is borked with my setup and that I have to go back upstairs to .... with it. I'd prefer to just avoid it altogether and have a coil/wick that is so simple that it just works all the time.
  • I don't care how to mod looks. As long as it doesn't look like a dildo.
Thanks

First, it sounds like the issue is with the thank, not the mod. If the mod is working, no need to dump it, just find a tank you like. For simple single coil you can take a look at the Serpent mini, long a favorite, simple to build single coil deck, but only holds 2 ml. The new Goblin 3 mini has a single coil deck option, and an extension set to double the volume from 2 to ~4 ml.

If you do want a new mod, and want small and simple, you can't go wrong with a Pico. Single 18650, 75W, affordable, good track record, and you can ignore any TC functions and just stay in wattage mode. Pair it with one of the above and you have a nice easy to pocket setup. Oh, and it still looks nice. No need to buy ugly. ;)

I agree with Eskie about the Eleaf Pico 75 watt, and I'm sure the Pico Mega is a great mod too. The Pico is a well made small mod and is plenty powerful for what it sounds like you'd like it to do. It looks great, performs flawlessly and is my favorite mod, especially for vaping on the go. It is also extremely comfortable to hold.

My suggestion for a tank is the Digiflavor Siren. It's a great new flavor M2L RTA with a very easy build and it is even easier to wick. It's equal to the Kayfun Lite + in the flavor department, and it's much easier to work with. It's almost as hassle-free as my old Nauti Minis with drop-in coils. The Siren is reasonably priced at approximately $26 - $36 each, depending on your vendor. The wicks seem to last forever and they keep pumping out the flavor for days on end. As long as you use enough wicking material, you'll find the Siren to be leak-free.

There's a thread for the Siren I will link you to below.

Whatever set-up you decide on, I hope it all works out perfectly for you.

Don't know about the Pico 75 Watt, but the Pico Mega that's compatible with 26650 has bypass mode which is nice. Acts like a mech in "bypass". Thanks for the recommendation of the Serpent. Thinking of ordering the full size version. Is it as good?

Never tried the full size Serpent. One thing to remember with the Pico and Pico Mega is they only take tanks up to ~22-23 mm due to the battery cap. So stuff like the v2 25 mm Serpent mini (called mega I think?) won't fit.

Ah, I forgot to mention that my ipv mini keeps turning off by itself randomly. I have to keep pulling out the battery and reinsert it to get it to come back. I have disassembled it and cleaned it, but it doesn't solve the problem (though it appears to help slightly for a couple of days)

In general, I have avoided joyetech products because they seem to make their 510s just a little shallow. This causes tanks to rock and wears out the threads really quickly. Can anyone confirm this is not an issue with the pico? I've been eyeing the d3s, because the mini I have has been a reliable mod for over a year, but it appears pioneer4you seems to have fallen out of favor more recently.

The Joyetech mods still don't have the best 510. However, almost all the tanks I've had sit flush. With the few that have exceptionally long 510 pins I've simply used spacers.
