New, My Story

Hi. I'm new to vaping (3weeks), and this is my first forum experience also.

My story. I have been a smoker for 20 years, started at age 15 and smoked a pack a day. At age 21 I had to have an emergency hysterectomy. I was smoking and on estrogen and a blood clot when through my heart and lungs. Scared me to death, Dr. said it was because I was smoking and on estrogen. I asked if I could use the patch or gum or lozenges while on estrogen. He said no, the problem is the nicotine. So I quit...... not the smoking, which would have been best.... I quit taking estrogen.

It's been a few years since then and it's not going very well, for example I'm aging much faster, not sleeping due to night sweats, hot flashes suck!!, and having issues in the bedroom. For what ever reason my smoking habit wasn't enough for me, I continued to smoke a pack a day and was using a lozenge when I couldn't smoke (in the house, the store, Dr office, work, and I even slept with one). This has gone on for about a year and a half.
About 2 weeks before I started vaping I was having really bad chest pain and pressure off and on, it would happen a few times every day. I was scared, but didn't see a doctor. I spent those two weeks mentally preparing myself for quitting. Then while at the mall I saw an ecig kiosk and checked it out. Got to try a few flavors and told her I would think about it (finances were tight and it's a lot to get started). But the next day the pain in my chest worsened, and had went down my arm... That was it!! The next day I went to her store and got a starter kit and started vaping. I had a real cig the next day while on a smoke break at work and hated the feeling of the smoke in my throat and lungs, and it tasted like I was licking the bottom of my shoe after running in a swamp ewwww. That's when I got excited about vaping and knew it was going to work for me.
They started me on 18mg because I was a pack a day smoker, after just 2 days on that I went back and got a 6mg, and two days after that I was mixing my 6mg with 0mg. I've been on that ever since.
I can't wait to get to 0mg and start my estrogen again. I'm planning on making vaping (nic free) a hobby, I ordered stuff from my freedom smokers to make my own juice and it arrived today.
Thanks for having such a great place for people like me to be able to tell my story and get advice and guidance. I'm looking forward to getting experience so I can help the new comers as well.

Just a little advice. Drink plenty of water, give your body the sleep it is needing to heal and enjoy vaping. It's a journey but worth it. You might still have withdrawals from all the chemicals that were in cigs but your off to an impressive start. I'm about 8 months in and I've just recently began tapering down to 6mg. I smoked nearly 2 packs a day.

Congratulations on quitting smoking for 3 weeks and welcome to ECF.

Congrats Lorissasmom on your success so far. You seem as motivated to get off cigarettes as anyone I have seen and you have reduced your nic consumption dramatically already...awesome. Keep some of that higher mg nic around in case you get serious cravings that need a little extra kick to keep you away from cigarettes....happens more often when you have dropped down as quick as you have.
Congratulations once again and welcome to ECF
