Hm, he may be referring to diacetyl/AP/diketones. Some flavorings have certain chemicals in them which are known to be harmful. As it is, it's pretty hard to identify which juices may or may not contain this.

I'm a bit paranoid about the entire situation, so I stay away from any juices that are known to have diketones in them, and I only vape juices that have been lab tested. There are a LOT of threads on the ECF about diketones ("the great diketone debate" is a hot topic). In the end, it's up to you to make the decision.

I quit smoking with the intention of maximizing harm reduction. This means eliminating any flavorings that are known to be harmful. For this reason, I vape mostly unflavored/DIY my own juice with very small amounts of flavorings from reliable, tested, and trustworthy companies.

For the record, some known juices that are particularly/alarmingly rife with diketones are five pawns juices (their entire line is pretty bad), Suicide Bunny, Cuttwood, and Nicoticket (Sure Bert in particular). Some of these companies are better about disclosing their diketone-inclusion than others. Personally, I vote on staying away from any juices that have diketones. Nothing against their companies, I just don't think we know enough about the potential harm we could be doing by inhaling this stuff which, in the past, has been proven to be very harmful to human lungs.

What nyiddle said.
With that said from what I can learn even vaping the juices with diacetyl/AP/diketones in them is far less bad than smoking.

Yeah, that's something I always mention when I'm talking to people about diketones. They get this, "Wait, I shouldn't be vaping custard?" sort of mentality, and then I quell that with a little, "Nah but for all we know it's still waaay less harmful than cigarettes." For all we know, that's true, but there is a certain level of uncertainty there, and I'm not willing to tempt the odds.

We're all guinea pigs to some extent, we're sort of on the cusp of a burgeoning new science.. We just have to be smart and as informed as possible about deciding where we may want to draw the line.

Yep we are lab rats. Took them how long to figure out cigs were bad for us?
In any case been vaping not diacetyl but A/P V1 flavored juices for over 6 months now.
And still am much better than when I smoked. Might die next week though ;)

And I do understand and support your caution, although I personally do not feel that way.
Most do quit cigs to lower their risk factors.
And even without the DAP issues there is still a bit of risk factor involved in vaping since we do not have a clue as to the long term impacts of vaping.

Absolutely, there are other causes for concern (high temperature vaping, PG exposure to pets, the many non-DAP chemicals in flavorings that we have no idea about)...

Exciting times, really.

The is a Di/AP Free List floating around the forum.

Also rumor had it one of the local shops around me was putting in caffeine (which is useless to vape) for added money. Another shop added whatever you want (fill in the blanks).

Just make sure get your juice from a reputable source, lab made. Refer to this forum for those vendors if unsure of the unknown.

Vaping is moving at the speed of sound- research about 1MPH. A lot we do not know still. Hopefully we will get more current used devices research soon. I would like to see emission differences (if any) between cigalikes and Subohm. myself. Show me the #'s!
