Those opaque clearish insulators are the root of many problems with the new protanks. I refuse to use them at all just to save myself the aggravation. I bought other insulators and if I have to open up a new head I replace it with a different insulator. You don't have to drill out the airholes in the base but just finger twist the drillbit to make the holes a bit bigger little at a time so you don't go from one extreme to the other. The metal is quite soft and easy to finger twist a drillbit.
The other option is pulling the pin down along with the insulator and having to do that every time you remove the atty from the PV and I know thats been mentioned many times in many other threads.
