when my previous german shepard was a puppy, she slept next to my bed and I got up 1 or 2 times a night to take her out to potty. After a while when she wanted to go..she got my robe off the bed and brought it to me! This was noon or 7pm..she thought robes were needed so I could take her out! That poor old robe was full of puppy teeth holes and slobber!

This is a timely thread for me. We rescued (another) pug. She has a Lot of bad habits at a year old and I do think she has ADHD. She is a stealth furniture chewer. Turn my back for one minute and the legs of chairs are bitten to shreds - ack! I have tried every spray out there. Luckily I stumbled on one thing that keeps her away from my wood furniture for a while. Tobasco sauce. I thought - oh, that can't be good. My oldest pug loves it (thank goodness she doesn't chew the furniture) but the little one hates it. If you use it, do a test spot to make sure it doesn't stain.

Mema,

I tried using tabasco sauce once to try to keep a dog from chewing. That dog LOVED it. oops.

CES, LOL!! so mine isn't the only one!
I just discovered that the little one will avoid the 'sauced' furniture only to find furniture that hasn't been 'sauced' it's getting very frustrating. I thought the chewing stage stopped before they were a year old?

MeMa, at one year they are technically teenagers and it's when naughty habits will either reappear or pop up out of nowhere. The chewing may be anxiety from changing homes, or possibly that she never learned how to comfort herself appropriately. No matter how much I've seen it, it still amazes me that some people get puppies and expect them to be perfect within a couple of weeks. Or, think that they can leave them free in the house and not have a mess. Like they would let their toddler have unrestricted access to the whole house?! :p Thanks for having the patience and love to rescue, and I'm glad at least this one has an aversion to tobasco! :)

My shepards never chewed the furniture..it was just me! For some reason they all loved chewing my toes and legs!
They must have heard me refer to my legs as chicken legs!
Thank goodness german Shepards stop that stuff by 3 or 4 months!

We had my son's akita living with us..they quit weighing him after he hit 150. His thing was cleaning ears! Yours, mine, the cats, dogs and even a pot belly pig! The one thing that defeated him was our chickens..he couldn't find them! The chickens pretended to faint when he caught them and clucked their displeasure for hours when he finished looking. Mad as a wet hen is a true thing!
