Well shucks. The coil burned out in one of my mods this morning during a dry burn, and now I gotta fix it. It's looks like I need to reduce the burn time, especially with the ones that have been in use for a while. It happened with my Masterpiece III, which has been in use for a few weeks. The coil is usually dry burned three times each day.
This one is an improved version derived from the prototype "Little Tank" that was displayed back in February: ---->

The Masterpiece III
This one has a larger intake tube than the Little Tank. Except for the coil and wick, everything you see inside is made from scratch. The threaded base fitting is from an E2, but it has been drilled out to accept a solid insulator made from Phenolic. The air tube is 1/4" shorter than the original and is made from lead free aluminum bronze, which includes the center battery post with the "screw driver" slot. (The original has an air tube that is pressed into the battery post). As a result, the inside guts are rigid in the center of the tube and stay that way.
The larger air tube means that there is not enough room for the wires that originally went through the bottom of the cup. Therefore, a new cup is made from clear acrylic, and the wires are in the slots with the wicks. You can't see it in the photo, but the coil is visible from the outside. This mod holds 3ml of juice when filled to the bottom of the cup.
The mouthpiece is long enough to give a reasonably cool vape. It does not have an air chamber large enough for condensation to form. I test a mouthpiece before the coil and wick is installed. When the cartridge is filled with water and turned upside down, it does not leak. An air bubble can be seen in the empty slots, forcing the water to stay inside the reservoir. If shaken like a salt shaker though, water will come out of the mouthpiece with each shake.
So, how does it work? It works better than the Little Tank. I tried to keep the vapor down with shorter draws, but have not succeeded. I now go through enough juice to be called a junkie.
BTW, the Little Tank is retired and replaced with the Masterpiece IV. It's a bit taller and has the later features. The only thing salvaged from the Little Tank is the mouthpiece. I have it filled with Salem Menthol right now, so won't be using it while replacing the coil and wick in the Masterpiece III. Instead, I'm puffing on the Masterpiece II, which ain't no slouch, heheh.
