Just one more thing, Nate. Don't scrap any flavors that don't work out for you. Some flavorings need to steep for a while. If something doesn't work out, cap it & put it away for 4-7 days before you try it again.
Some advice: Buy only Capella's flavorings to begin with. They are a little more expensive ($5.95), but there is not the failure rate that is so common with other brands. They should always be blended @ 10-15%. (I do 15% consistently) Capella's has some nice specials from time to time, but you can also buy them at an everyday low price of $4.49 from netrition.com (and also get them quicker). Netrition's Capella Prices For e-juice, choose the regular flavor drops, not the water flavets. Oh, and did I mention that Capella's is right here in San Diego North County (San Marcos).
The Flavor Apprentice (TFA) flavorings receive many reviews of chemical and perfumery undertones. I love (and buy) TFA Pear, Pizza, Cotton Candy, and Caramel Candy. Her Vanilla Bourbon is rated highly also. You can PM me if you want before buying any TFA.
FlavourArt brand is wonderful, but no one can ever be sure of what percentages to use. The least expensive places to find them are at ecigexpress and purevapes. FA is a flavoring line to consider once you have been mixing for a while and don't mind fussin and fooling around a lot with flavor percentages.
Having said all that, I will tell you that there is a new Chinese line of flavorings (from VapeZone.com) that get rave reviews that are super concentrated. I've heard they are pricey but really not because you use only 2.5%. The problem here is that their ingredients are not on the label like other companies list. So, you should buy at your own risk. I don't buy from them b/c the Chinese are notorious for cutting corners to cut costs. YMMV. I like keeping the revenue in my own nation too. Again, YMMV.
One last thing: Do not ever let the nicotine touch the flavoring before it is blended. IOW, measure in your flavorings, then the PG, then the VG and last is the nicotine - then shake. The advanced DIYers all agree that it makes quite a difference.
