I changed a couple of springs today. The old spring seems to be held in with hot glue, so when you heat the solder joint the spring comes off fairly easily, metal tweezers work well for lifting it off. Fitting the battery before soldering the new spring holds the spring in place and allows you to align it and seat it properly, then I soldered it with the battery in place, then pulled the battery and cleaned up the flux with a Q-tip and isopropyl alc. I'm running 1.7 ohm coils so the improvement is small, but for just $5 for a *gold* spring how could I not do it :)

Just installed a new gold spring in the Woodvil.
VTC5 battery 18650 4.08 no load
VTC5 battery 18650 3.99 underload
reading on RM2 posts with 1.2 ohm coil 3.64
voltage drop .35
Hits harder than the old spring did.

I thought it was my imagination but I found the new spring to hit harder as well! I got my woodvil back from Rob for some repair and came back with the gold spring. I mounted my 1.15 ohm atty back on and whew!!!! Blew my lungs out. I rebuilt the atty, added a couple of wraps to get up to about 1.37 and still hits harder than my other Reo with regular springs at 1.1 ohm!

I will have the copper beryllium positive contacts soon not as easy to switch out as the spring but if your chasing voltage drop it will certainly give you better results
I'm in for 5 of these for better battery life. I don't plan to drop below about .8 on my woodvils. I worry about the higher heat from the rba transferring to the wood.

Been running .5Ohm MM coil in my woodvil with no problemos. Very tasty:)
Mines also taken an 8 foot drop down a concrete pillaster form:shock:, down onto a concrete footer:cry:, and was then fished out with a makeshift jig:headbang:
It only took on a 1/16" dent. Curly Oak woodvils are tuff little suckas:vapor:.:)

spring installation waiting on proper tools. Materials are in RV

Hmmm, copper beryllium positive contacts, that sounds interesting!

Last night I was thinking the difference with the new gold coils wasn't very significant, since my coils are high at 1.7 ohms, and the idea of the kit was mostly for sub ohms, the other end of the spectrum. Well, I took my 2 loaded 18490's to work as usual, the nic seemed a bit stronger than usual, getting a fair bit of the pepper taste, but the surprising thing was I ran both of them dry of juice, which I have never done before. I even pulled the battery and lifted the bottle on one to make sure it wasn't leaking! Where did my juice go? So, definitely a noticeable difference, even way up high at 1.7 ohms.

In fact, my 3 woodies and 2 metals (with SO upgrade) are all consuming juice at an alarming rate! :) Just goes to show, a fancy multimeter and all the ohms law in the world may not be the best way to truly evaluate the higher performance from the new contacts. I'll run the same coils again tomorrow, and then decide if I'll add another wrap on the coils.

Oooh....I see my woodvils coming to the spa when that happens! Will you update this thread when you have them?
