Hi. I'm new to this and want to try vaping (is that right?) As I want to save money and eventually give up smoking.
I actually enjoy smoking, but its a strain on my purse strings(getting married soon and need every penny I can muster) and also I have the dreaded smokers cough.
In my home town of Liverpool, i have come across two differents brands, both saying they were the best. I cant for the life of me remember the names though.

I thought you could just buy the e-cig starter kit, and replacement carts. And away you go. But after browsing the forum, it seems a lot more complicated.

Do I buy carts, or the refillable ones?
I'm really confused about what i'm best starting with, as expense is a big factor yet I do want a good e-cig.

A couple I know at a family party yesterday each had one, and say they paid £20 for the kit, and each cart was equivalent to 280 cigarettes. I found this quite hard to believe, as the vendor I spoke to said each cart was equivalent to 40 cigarettes.

I'll try to find out the name of their e-cig and get back to you.

Thanks in advance for any help and advice given in my trangression to vaping!

For aq starter kit you might consider an eGo many places sell them but if you want something simple that will be the last device you ever need you might want to consider a Reo from REOSMODS.com they may seem a little extreme to you initially but I wish someone would have shown them to me first and you can use cartomizers on either device. Its cheaper to buy the refillable ones like Boge then just try some different juices from different vendors till you find the ones you like the best.

If you know you are going to keep vaping for a long time, I would go look at cloud 9 vapors and get you a good device. Super T or Puresmoker are both great. Get the correct batteries for it, some 510 atomizers, a nice drip tip, a charger and some juice. That way you can skip the cheap junk and use something that works and will keep working. If you are limited on $ then you would need to get something cheaper. Just dont get something that looks like a cigarette.

Glad to hear you have found the E-Cig and want to give it a try :)

That is a nice looking kit and a good price too - would have been nice to know about that one when
I started :)

I started with a cheaper eGo type kit like this one:
CE4 Quick Starter Kit

Mine originally had an 1100mah Dragon Etched battery but there are many you can get.
The one I got with a first 10ml bottle of e-liquid only cost $40 (local vendor)

Now, I have 2 JoyeTech manual batteries (a 400mah and a 650mah), 2 rebuildable Vision Clearomizers,
the USB charger, an AC to USB Wall Adapter (JoyeTech), a carrying case, a 306LR Drip Tip, and some
3ml vbottles to put in my case - all for around $100 - and by my calculations -
I have saved about $80 by not buying cigarettes and in the months to come, as it pays for itself and
I only buy liquids, I will have saved much much more.

I too did enjoy the taste of tobacco so I have found there are many flavors of tobacco and I particularly
like Fire Cured Virginia Tobacco, Full Flavor Tobacco, and Peach Tobacco flavors.

Yeah, you could go with the EGO as a starter... they are economical and easy to use.

There are many out there so I know what you mean about confusion...
The ones called "510's" (usually the Joye 510) are usually the ones that look like a real cigarette -
long and slim and have a ring at the separation between battery and cartomizer/atomizer.
You just buy cartridges for these - and some have refillable cartridges.
Joye 510-T Automatic Kit

The "Fat Bats" (as they are often called) - (Usually the "eGo/eGo-c", etc.) are the ones that take on
more of a cigar look and have the clear and colored "Tanks" that you fill over and over. These come
in many colors (even pink for the ladies) and are very versatile.
These have various size batteries - the size determines how long they last before needing recharged.
CE4 Quick Starter Kit
Joye eGo Batteries 900mah
Vision 2.0 Clearomizer 1.6ml CE4

Whatever you choose is better than real cigarettes :)

Hope this helps and Good Luck :)

NOTE: I do not work for EcigExpress... I just buy from them a lot so that is the easiest way I can find things
to look at and they are a great place to buy from :)

You could get a brand name starter kit, but it's more expensive and you'll probably want something better eventually. the brand name kits want you to buy their cartridges (cartomizers) that are prefilled with e-liquid, but the cartridges can be refilled and that makes way cheaper. The battery life of them is also very bad, and the prefilled cartridges are no where near 40 cigarettes. I was a pack a day smoker and I could burn through two cartridges in a day easily.

I'm still fairly new to the e-cig world and i'm very content with the ego-c twists. They last about a day for the average person, they'll last me atleast half a day no problem whereas the cigarette sized e-cigs have me charging them all the time which gets very annoying quick.

I recommend getting a nice starter kit, just look around and find something that appeals to you. You'll want two batteries, a charger, a cartomizer, clearomizer or atomizer. Try different ones to find what suits your vaping needs best. You'll also need some e-juice. I'd suggest getting a bunch of samples and if you find one you really like you can order a big bottle and save a ton.

The kits that look like a cigarette can be inexpensive and are discrete but the carto's and batteries are not equivalent to a pack of smokes. If you normally smoke 20 or more a day, you will want something like an eGo tank or clearomizer kit and extra e-juice. I myself started out with the V2 cig kit and a month later got the eGoC/T2 kit. Like many of us vaporers, you will most likely have to try several different ones until you settle for a favorite.

Hello & welcome Tramca :)

I'm also in the UK :)

The e-cig sellers that say a cart is the equivalent to 40 cigs are grossly exaggerating - more like about 8-10. As others have said, the ciggie lookalikes really wont cut it for you unless you are a very light smoker. You really would do far better to go for an ego or Riva.

Have a look at this list of good UK e-cig & e-liquid sellers (discount codes included) -

I went from the Halo G6 kit to the eGo-C Twist + Vivi Nova Mini Tank system.

Mostly positive marks for both systems. In hindsight, I would have gone directly to the eGo setup for all day vaping...but I still use the Halo setup for the portability/discreetness.

For your reference, I WAS a +15 yr smoker @ just under a pack/day.

More good noob info including all the jargon which I found helpful here.

Thanks for the tips.

Ok. Just explain something to me.

Cartridge. Atomizer. Cartomizer. Whats what with those. Which one is refillable?

Cartridge - a mouth piece with stuffing in that you fill with e-liquid & use with an atomiser.

Atomiser - contains a coil that heats up & is used with a cartridge or a drip tip.

Cartomiser - a cartridge with a built in atomiser.

Cartridges & cartomisers can be refilled. Have a look at this link to help you understand the basics (the thread is a tad old & really do need to update it) -

Ok. After much deliberation I have decided to go for the Riva510 in pink. Pretty much everthing I own (clothes and accessories) are black. So I thought I'd bring a little girlyness into my life.
I also went with the chocolate flavour e-juice.

Right, i generally smoke up to 20 cigs a day, at 0.9mg nic.
Approx how long will 10mls of e-juice last based on my smoking habit.

I enjoy smoking and dont feel ready to give up so im hoping that vaping will benifit my health and my purse!

Ok, first here's the one I almost bought at my local shopping centre. Have a look at the website and tell me what you think.

The website for the brand the couple showed me last night.
Electronic cigarettes | Freedom Cigarettes

Thanks for the responses :)

Two things to remember. Hang your hat on this: If it is the size of a cigarette, it is grossly underpowered. Some are hung up on the look, but the constantly dying batteries cures them of this rather quickly.

Second thing: Prefilled cartos are rarely worth it. They are NEVER the equivalent of a pack of cigarettes. They are more like 5 cigarettes. It's called false advertizing.

Get a device with some power. Certainly no less than 600mah. Preferably over 1000mah.

You are going to need more juice. Get several different flavors. I was surprised what I did and did not like in my vape.
