Hello fellow E-Cig and Vapers.

I'm Josh, new to the forum here. I mainly dropped in for some technical support with some issues I'm having but I've been lurking on this site for information and reviews anyways so it's about time I made an account and became part of the community anyways. So far I've got 3 vaporizers, I started with a Gravity stick vape with a Aspire tank, wasn't impressed or hooked; I should say I was a pack a day smoker and was looking to quit smoking and start vaping. Next I took the advice from a buddy of mine, and picked up an Innoken MVP 2.0 with an Aspire Nautilus Mini and man oh man, was that a game changer for me! Just recently I picked up an iHybrid Pure Mod and that is mainly what I need help with, but I'll keep that to a more technical sub-forum. Anyways, glad to be here, glad to be off the squares, and glad to be vaping watermelon jolly rancher juice all day!

Also, I'm kind of picture crazy, in my line of work they make all the difference, so here's my MVP 2.0.

Thanks for the welcoming!

I was going to hold off so I don't look like "that guy" trying to find loop holes, but if tech questions are okay here, then thank you and here they are!

So, as mentioned, I got an iHybrid Pure, got it for $50 brand new from RoarVapes and it's a super nice mod, but I can't get this thing to wick/fire right to save my life! I've watched several build videos and reviews and what not, I've got it built just about the same as the people making these videos, only I don't get luscious clouds of flavor. Instead, I only get burnt metallic taste, inconsistent amounts of smoke, and the vapor coming out, literally burns the nostrils and throat. I've rebuilt this probably 5 times already, trying things slightly different I'm using 500 s/s mesh with 28G kanthal wire. I've got the mesh wrapped up nice and tight, just about solid, I've tried making the coil around the wick, making the coil on a drill bit, the coil doesn't seem like the issue, as it heats up nice and quick. The only thing I'm not sure if it is normal or not, once filled, and the wick is good and wet, you can still see the coil glow red when holding the fire button down. It has also popped a flame a few times too. Like I said, the taste is terrible, no flavor at all, and it's kind of aggravating having just spent all the money I did on everything needed to build it up. Anyways, here are a few pictures of the mod and my build (hopefully they don't show up horizontal too). Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone!

I have never built a genesis style atomizer but I have seen a few reviews on them. Did you oxidize the SS wick well before you wrapped your coil? As far as the coil goes it sounds like you have some "hot legs" or "hot spots" in the build.

Try looking at igetcha's video (if you haven't seen it). REVIEW OF THE IHYBRID PURE ELECTRONIC CIGARETTE

Hopefully some one with real "genesis build" experience will chime in.

I'm guessing you didn't burn the mesh to prevent it from shorting out the coil.

Also, even though the name is iHybrid , which suggests a hybrid mod, it looks to me like a 510 interface which means you could put the tank on your mvp to check the resistance and control the power

You could aim for about 1.5 ohm with 28 gauge and try that on your mvp; 1 ohm would be nice but I don't remember if the mvp would fire a 1 ohm coil

Thanks for the replies everyone, it's much appreciated.

Susan-S thank you for the video recommendation, I watched it, I noticed his wick is a lot more hollow, so I gave it a try just now, and it seems I'm getting the same result :(, hot burnt vapes.

edyle- Thanks for the help man, I have burned the mesh each time, once before I rolled it, and a second time once rolled and covered in some juice to coat it. The iHybrid is actually a one piece mod, the "tank" is actually just a glass sleeve that seals on two o-rings. So unfortunately I'm just kind of stuck with building on this.

For some stupid reason, my multimeter is not working correctly and is not reading this, despite the fact that it is definitely getting power. Any other guesses I'm ALL ears :D.

Yes, take a foot long length of kanthal and measure the ohms of it using your multimeter. That ought to give you some ohms and verify that your multimeter is working.

so far it still sounds like your coil is shorting on the mesh.

Well, sad news as of a half hour ago, my new out of the box iHybrid is no longer firing. Pretty bummed out. Not entirely sure what the problem is now but basically it was firing (still tasted bad) but then it just stopped out of no where. It would all of a sudden just give off one tiny barely noticeable puff of smoke, then nothing. I don't know if it is the battery or the device itself but something is definitely kaput.

Not to get the shovel out and dig up my own thread...BUT I GOT THE IHYBRID WORKING! And my god is it smooth. As it turns out, the battery took a crap on me (which was an AW 18490 so use caution there), so I went to the local smoke shop and the guy was cool enough to let me test it with a new battery to see where the fault was, and it turned out that way. So, I picked up an Efest 18500 battery, gave it another go at building my wick and coil setup and much to my surprise, it works like a charm now. I can't take all the credit here though, I watched a couple very informative videos along the way:

vapingwithdave - Stainless Steel Wick Tutorial - YouTube

and Crash Vapes, this dude has a lot of helpful well shot videos too.

Anyways, I couldn't give up on the mod, it was just too nice to pawn off on eBay for less than I paid for it. I also appreciate all the help from the users on here, I'm super glad I signed up here! Thanks!
