$60 not including the batteries? or $60 with a couple good batteries and a battery charger as well?
"Good" is a relative term. No, $60 will not get you a decent clone mech mod, and batteries and a charger unless everything is as cheap as you can find it.
Figure $100 for a Smok Magneto, which is an excellent mech, and some good batteries and charger.

I'm a second-timer to vaping and interested in jumping right from a KGO T3 into a Mech w/ atty.

I really enjoy vaping instead of smoking cigarettes. I relate it to being a seasoned pipe smoker or a cigar aficionato. I've been researching quite a bit lately and have jumped head first into the rabbit hole of vaping. I'm confident in my ability to improve and care for a mid-range mech, however, I'm coming up short on very important information.

  • How do we know if a mod requires button-top or flat head batteries?
  • How do we know if a kick or fuse fits or can be retrofit on non-telescoping mods?
  • What ohm cartos are safe on standard non-kicked mods? [and best ones for dripping several new flavors without flavor memory.]
  • Who makes the lowest profile EGO adapter for use with Pro Tanks and EVODs?
  • For those that want to go to attys, single coil vs. dual coil [or loop] tech, and why?

Okay, only the first two are very important. :p But still, any info is helpful for us noobs.

So I have been vaping a while now and really like to get into mech mods but have no idea of a good mod to start with. Having a budget of 60 bux just for the mod, what would be something good to start with?

An excellent starter mech would be a k100 or a k101. It telescopes, so you can use a variety of different batteries in it and a kick if you wanted. It's solid, well made and you can get one for as little as $20. Threading is very good for a clone and the finish on it is almost like an anodized coating that wears very well.

Doing that would leave you $40 to get some good quality batteries and a good charger - Baditudes post above is a good place to start for researching mech safety.

have not seen a mechanical yet require button top batteries so chances are both will work fine. (within reason not all batteries are the same exact length.)

usually it will say in the description or they will usually state it will fit or you need to buy such and such adapter.

also, a mech that will fit an 18650 will usually take an 18500 w kick. same goes for an 18500 it will take an 18350 w a kick.
this is not standard but pretty common. for a mod to use an 18650 kicked almost all of them require an adapter. and only the individual manufactures can supply this or state it is available.

the best thing to do is dig around the apv forum or post mods you are interested in and see if others have kicked it

I'd have to agree with that... the Kamry is one of the few $20'ish clones that is good value.

I have to say I really like mine - it's very well made for such a little outlay. Got it from https://www.fasttech.com/p/1391901

I also got an IGO-L from fasttech, so the whole package for less than $30. I already had a good quality charger and batteries. In fact, you can also get those from fastech too - and Intellicore I-2 for $15 and some Sony https://www.fasttech.com/p/1315400

Bought two, liked them a good amount, gave them to friends (I have to stop doing that) and now I want another, but I've got all my "vapin' buxs" going in two other directions. Next month. ;-)

I rock a K101 mech mod, it was my first vape and I think it will be more than enough for what I was looking for in vape. Easy to use and you can get a starter kit for about $75 which comes with a K100/K101 mech mod, case, 18650 battery, 18350 battery, charger, and a case for all the goods. I got mine from http://www.vapedoctor.com/k100-k101-starter-kit-telescoping-mechanical-mod/

i would recommend looking into the drawtube. its got a good build to it and the only thing u may need to do if bought new is sand the contacts to brass. unless u find one in the classifieds, im pretty sure someone will have already done it. it was my first mech and i rocked it with a igo-w. make sure u get a good imr battery. i purchased some sony US18650VTC3 off ebay and i love them. i had efest batteries at first but i can notice a difference for sure. . u are also gonna want a good charger as well, maybe like the nitecore i2. i doubt all of this will fit in your price range but u are stepping into a different world with mechs. and above all else.. this is only my opinion as im sure there will be many others.
