Hello!

I'm new to mods. Based on my research so far, the eVic seems like a good choice to get started in mods since it's simple and has some (conservative?) safety limits set to protect me from newbie mistakes. I also like the pass-through battery and the option to update the firmware.

Unfortunately, the local distributor here only has the old version of the control head (without the screws). Is it still worth buying the eVic in this configuration? I'm not sure when they'll get the new version. It seems like they are trying to sell-off all of their stock before getting new ones over.

Thank you for your response!

I know little about the Evic, other that is a gorgeous device. I was thinking of getting one but I changed my mind. I would suggest you to buy the new version from another store. I've read a lot, and I mean a lot about the evic and apparently the old version is very fragile. Unless you are certainly sure that you won't drop it, I would go to the newer version.

Thanks!

Yes I was afraid of the fragility. Is it really that fragile though? Will it break in your pocket or from minor bumps?

From the stuff I read here, it seems the screws were the major update to the head. Was there any internal difference to the circuitry as well? Do both versions perform identically? Were there differences in manufacturing quality?

What made you change your mind about getting the eVic?

Thanks!

Those are questions that I cannot answer, I am very new and the little I know about the Evic is what I read when I was thinking in buying it. I don't think it will break from a minor drop, but I heard people that dropped it from the desk and it broke.

I didn't go with the evic because I decided to go with a provari mini.

I think a lot of your questions can be answered in evic's own subforum: eVic

While I don't know if the circuitry inside is different, the Evic was designed to periodic updates in its firmware, making it be able to get updated.

My 2 cents would be to get the new version with the screws. I have read posts where people broke the old version with regular use. Unless your B&M source is pricing it to where it's worth the gamble, it would really suck to get it and then not be able to use it because it broke.

I do not own an Evic, but have seen my fair amount of help my Evic fell apart on me type posts.

It's not that fragile, I've managed to break plastic on mine, but only after I've drop it ten or more times, from 3 ft, or more (clumsy fingers :)).

The old one is easy to fix if you know how to solder and epoxy. I've fixed three of them now, four times total. If you don't want to solder wires back together, because there is no warranty service for this "abuse," please buy the new one elsewhere. The "deals" out there are all the old ones, and they are very fragile, in my experience. Do yourself a favor and get the new one with the two head screws.

Thanks! I'll see my choices. So far, the official distributor here doesn't have the V2 in stock. It might be a few months out.

I saw the eVic forum and was meaning to post this there, but as a new member to the boards, I did not have posting rights there yet.

Again, thank you all for your input. I'll weigh my options and see where I end up. :) Cheers!

With the two head screws and a bit of care, the eVic is the second best easy to get APV on the market, and the best under $100, imho, if you can live with the 5 volt limitation. Some can't, and it's not for them. Also, the evic can be dressed up. Here's my new Kir Fanis Tubes, and I just had to share:

Evic with Ithaka Clone.jpg Evic with Kayfun.jpg Kir Fanis Stainless Telescoping Evic Tube with IGO-L.jpg Kir Fanis Stainless Telescroping Evic Tube with RSST.jpg

With Ithaka Clone and Kayfun Lite in 18650 Mode, and IGO-L and RSST in 18350 Mode. Very heavy duty Stainless Steel Telescoping tubes, that really beefs up the eVic.

Hey, you mentioned conservative safety limits. I don't know if the firmware has been updated since, but the eVic used to limit to voltage so much, it was unusable to me. GrimmGreen has a video on it. Maybe someone can chime in on this. Is it still so limited? I find the Provari even limits too much for some coils, like on my Kayfun. The Buzz Pro has a higher limit. Also, if you like all the menus and gadgets then cool, but if you want something affordable and powerful, check out the SID, or more so, the Vamo. Any mod that you can stack batteries in gives you an option for some more power, if needed. I feel everyone should have a twin 18650 box mod that won't limit voltage, and then a more everyday mod. good luck.

Easy to see, now here my more than one cent, I have a 1000 euro 1600 dollar evic v.1 only in the world, now it's expensive and is meant to be on a shelf but not me. This is my every day drop kick , smack , drop run over with a semi and you couldn't break it I've dropped it 30+ times broke 3 Kanger pro2 tanks ( glass ) and this thing still has no scratches and never have had an issue with it. It's a dream and if your scared about the one screw your silly its not worth making a fuss over. If you find a v.2 get it but don't wait months to get it this is a flawless device and will never be out dated.... Recommended to anyone, so easy a cave man can do it.

Happy vapes!

Thanks Vana. Glad to hear that the V1 is holding up to your use. I'll drop by the store later today and see what they have. I have a feeling I'd pick it up even if it were a V1 anyway. :D

If the worst case comes and I knock the head over and it separates, I'm not a stranger to epoxy and soldering so I might be able to fix it. :D

Cheers!
